1) What driver do I need for the Metallics TP202SBC tamper-resistant screw?
It takes a pin-in-star (pin-in-Torx) bit, not a standard Torx. The TP202SBC is a button head star drive with a center pin, so a plain Torx driver will not seat on it. You need the matching pin-in-star security bit for a #6-32 button head before you start the job.
2) Are these Metallics security screws stainless steel, and can they go outdoors?
They are 18-8 stainless, the common 300 series austenitic grade used for general corrosion resistance. That makes the TP202SBC suitable for damp and exterior-exposed locations where a plain steel screw would rust, though 18-8 is not the grade for marine salt spray.
3) Why choose a pin-in-star screw instead of a regular Phillips or slotted screw?
Security. A Phillips or slotted head can be backed out with anything in a pocket; the pin-in-star head on the TP202SBC blocks a standard Torx bit and needs the matching security driver. Use it where the public can reach the hardware, device plates, covers, and panels in corridors, restrooms, schools, and transit spaces. If nobody but your own crew touches the fastener, a standard drive is faster to install and cheaper to replace.
4) Will a button head screw sit flush in a countersunk hole?
No. The TP202SBC has a button head, which is a low rounded dome that sits on top of the surface. If your plate or cover is countersunk for a flat head, the button head will not pull down into the chamfer and will stand proud. For a flush finish you need a flat head screw in the same 6-32 x 1 size.
