Metallics TP225SBC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I need a special driver for these Metallics button head star pin screws?
Yes. The TP225SBC uses a tamper-resistant star (six-lobe) recess with a center pin, so a standard Torx bit will not seat. You need a pin-in-Torx security bit sized to the recess. A plain Torx, Phillips, or hex driver won't turn it, which is the point of the fastener.
2) Are these 18-8 stainless screws OK for outdoor or damp electrical enclosures?
The TP225SBC is 18-8 stainless, an austenitic chrome-nickel grade that resists general atmospheric and indoor-damp corrosion, so it holds up far better than plated steel on exterior boxes, covers, and wet-location enclosures. For salt spray or coastal exposure, 316 is the step up.
3) Will a 1/4 inch long screw be long enough for my application?
At 1/4 inch of length under the head, the TP225SBC is for thin material, think a sheet metal cover, plate, or faceplate going into a tapped hole or a nut right behind it. Once you add a gasket or stack more than about an eighth of an inch of material, you lose usable thread engagement and should go longer.
4) How many screws come in a pack of Metallics TP225SBC?
They ship 100 pieces per pack, one model, TP225SBC. That quantity suits standardizing covers or faceplates across a floor or a building rather than a one-off repair.
5) Why choose a button head instead of a flat head for a tamper-resistant cover screw?
Button head sits proud of the surface with a low dome and needs no countersink, so it works on flat sheet metal that was simply drilled and tapped. A flat head requires a chamfered or countersunk hole to sit flush. The TP225SBC being button head means you can use it on existing untreated through-holes.
