1) Can I put a Securitron MM15 MEMLOCK on a fire rated door?
Yes. The MM15 is UL 10C fire rated for 1 hour and carries UL/cUL listing under GWXT.R13976 / GWXT7.R13976, plus CAN/ULC-S533 listing for Canadian jobs. It is a fail safe lock, so it releases on power loss the way a fire alarm interface requires.
2) What power supply do I need for a Securitron MM15 MEMLOCK?
The MM15 runs on either 12 or 24 volts and accepts AC or DC, so an existing access control power supply will almost always drive it without a new one. Draw is 130 mA max at 12 VAC and 250 mA at 24 VAC, or 100 mA at 12 VDC and 200 mA at 24 VDC. Size the supply from those figures when you are running several doors off one panel. It is fail safe, so if you need the door to stay locked through an outage, put it on a supply with battery backup.
3) Which MM15 model should I order, MM15, MM15DT, MM15G or MM15GDT?
Four builds, and the choice comes down to two decisions. Monitoring: plain MM15 and MM15G have none, while MM15DT and MM15GDT add a door position switch and an anti-tamper switch, which is what you order if the access control head end needs to report door status or if the lock is somewhere a tamper alarm matters. Wiring: MM15 and MM15DT are direct mount, while MM15G and MM15GDT are prepped for 1/2 inch conduit, which is the version for gate and exposed wiring runs. Monitoring cannot be added later without swapping the lock, so decide it before you order.
4) Can a Securitron MM15 MEMLOCK be used outside on a gate?
No. The MM15 is rated for indoor use only, even the conduit prepped MM15G and MM15GDT versions. The conduit prep handles the wiring method, not weather exposure. Operating range is -40 to +140 F (-40 to +60 C), so cold is not the limit, moisture is. For an exterior gate you want a lock built for outdoor service.
5) Is the MM15 maglock fail safe or fail secure?
Fail safe. Cut power to the MM15 and the lock releases, which is what lets it tie into a fire alarm and egress release. If the requirement is for the opening to stay secure through a power failure, the answer is not a different setting on this lock, it is a battery backed power supply feeding it.
6) What else do I need to order to install an MM15 MEMLOCK on my door?
The MM15 ships with a mounting plate and the standard Brushed Stainless dress cover. What you add depends on the opening: header extension brackets when the magnet needs to come off the header face, stop filler plates for stop conditions, and the Z bracket kit for inswing doors where the armature has to be carried off the door face. For added protection against attack at the lock itself, there is the MM15-TS Tamper Shield. Power supply is separate.
7) What finish does the Securitron MM15 come in, and can I match it to brass hardware?
Finish on the MM15 is set by a snap on metal dress cover, not by the lock body. Brushed Stainless ships standard with the lock. Black, Polished Brass and Satin Brass dress covers are available if the opening needs to match existing trim. Because the cover snaps on, finish is a field change rather than a different lock.
