Sioux Chief 840-20ANR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Sioux Chief 840-20ANR floor drain connect to 2 inch or 3 inch Schedule 40 DWV pipe?
Both. The 840-20ANR has an ABS hub that fits over 2 inch Schedule 40 pipe and slips inside 3 inch Schedule 40 pipe, so one drain body covers either rough-in on a DWV line. It is a solvent-weld hub connection, not threaded, so you glue it to the pipe.
2) Is the 840-20ANR floor drain body metal or plastic, and does that matter for a basement slab pour?
The body is ABS, not cast iron. That makes it light to set and it solvent-welds straight to ABS DWV pipe, which is why it is commonly used for utility, basement and service area drains in both new construction and renovation work. If your spec calls for a cast iron body under a heavy traffic floor, this is not that drain.
3) What strainer comes on the Sioux Chief 840-20ANR, and what finish is visible at the floor?
It ships with a round nickel-bronze strainer, so the visible surface at the floor is nickel-bronze rather than plastic or painted steel. That is the finish to match if you are standardizing drains across a floor or replacing one in a finished space.
4) Which Sioux Chief part number do I order for the 2 inch ABS floor drain with the nickel-bronze round strainer?
Order Sioux Chief 840-20ANR. That single part number is the 2 inch ABS drain body with the nickel-bronze round strainer, and it is sold in packs of 10 each.
5) Do I need a separate trap with this ABS floor drain?
Yes. The 840-20ANR is a drain body with a hub outlet, not a trapped assembly, so the trap is part of your piping below. Plan a 2 inch P-trap on the outlet side when you lay out the rough-in.
6) Can I use the 840-20ANR on a PVC DWV system instead of ABS?
The hub is described as accommodating ABS or PVC Schedule 40 pipe transitions, so it is used on either material. Solvent cement has to suit the joint you are making between an ABS body and PVC pipe.
