Sioux Chief 869-2A ABS Backwater Valve, 2" DWV Horizontal Gravity-Flow

The Sioux Chief 869-2A is a 2" ABS backwater valve built for horizontal, gravity-flow DWV installations behind the wall or under the slab. It is designed exclusively for horizontal runs - do not install this valve vertically. The body is molded from ABS for the drain-waste-vent connections it is intended to join, and a threaded access cap lets a plumber reach the internal flap for maintenance and inspection without cutting into the line. If the installation calls for a 6" backwater valve extension, the valve is designed to accept a 10" length of Schedule 40 pipe (pipe not included) to bring the access point up to grade or finished floor level.

Key Features

  • Trade Size: 2" DWV connection sized for rough-in drain line tie-ins.
  • Durable Construction: Molded ABS body suited to DWV pipe and fittings.
  • Horizontal Gravity-Flow Design: Engineered for horizontal, gravity-flow drain runs only - do not install vertically.
  • Threaded Access Cap: Removable threaded access allows a plumber to inspect and service the internal backflow flap without disturbing the surrounding pipe.
  • Extension-Ready: Accepts a 10" length of Schedule 40 pipe (not included) to build a 6" backwater valve extension up to the finished surface.

Technical Specifications

  • Country of Origin: China
  • Packaging: 8 EA per case

Typical Applications

  • Horizontal DWV Rough-In Installations
  • Backflow Protection on Gravity-Flow Drain Lines
  • Residential and Commercial Drain Line Rough-In
  • New Construction and Renovation Drain Work
  • Below-Grade or Below-Floor Backwater Protection with Extension to Grade

Why Sioux Chief?

Sioux Chief builds the 869-2A backwater valve from ABS with a threaded access cap so plumbers can service the valve in place rather than reopening the wall or floor. The horizontal, gravity-flow-only design and extension compatibility give contractors a straightforward way to position the access point exactly where the job calls for it, using a 10" length of Schedule 40 pipe to reach a 6" extension.

Sioux Chief 869-2A – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Sioux Chief 869-2A backwater valve be installed vertically in a stack?
No. The 869-2A is a horizontal gravity-flow valve only. Installing it vertically is specifically ruled out by Sioux Chief, because the internal flap relies on horizontal gravity flow to seat and unseat. For a vertical application you need a valve built for that orientation, not this one.
2) What pipe size and material does the Sioux Chief 869-2A backwater valve connect to?
It is a 2 inch DWV valve with an ABS body, so it solvent-welds into 2 inch ABS drain, waste and vent pipe and fittings. If the drain line you are tying into is 2 inch PVC, you are joining dissimilar plastics and that is a transition decision you need to make at the fitting, not inside the valve.
3) How do you service a backwater valve that is buried under a slab?
The 869-2A has a removable threaded access cap directly over the internal backflow flap, so a plumber can pull the cap, inspect or clear the flap, and reseat it without cutting the surrounding pipe. If the valve sits below grade or below the finished floor, it accepts a 10 inch length of Schedule 40 pipe to build a 6 inch backwater valve extension that brings that access point up to the finished surface. The pipe is not included.
4) Does the Sioux Chief 869-2A come with the extension pipe and riser?
No, the valve ships on its own. To carry the access up to grade or finished floor you supply a 10 inch piece of 2 inch Schedule 40 pipe yourself, which builds the 6 inch backwater valve extension the valve is designed to accept. Order that pipe separately with the valve so the crew is not stopped at rough-in.
5) Is the 869-2A suitable for a pumped or pressurized sewage line?
No. This valve is built for gravity-flow drain runs, where waste moves by slope and the flap closes against reverse flow. A pumped discharge or force main is a different application and needs a check valve rated for that service, not a gravity DWV backwater valve.
6) What does a backwater valve on a 2 inch drain line actually protect against?
It stops reverse flow. On a horizontal gravity drain, the internal flap swings open with normal outbound waste and closes if the municipal main or downstream line surcharges, keeping sewage from backing up into fixtures served by that branch. The 869-2A covers that duty at 2 inch trade size, which is typical for a branch serving a laundry, floor drain or lavatory group rather than a full building drain.
7) Where should the 869-2A backwater valve be located on a rough-in?
Behind the wall or under the slab on the horizontal branch it protects, positioned so the threaded access cap is reachable, either directly or through the extension up to finished floor. Set the valve with the flow direction and slope of the horizontal run, and plan the access location before the floor is poured or the wall is closed, since the cap is the only service point on the valve.
8) How is the Sioux Chief 869-2A backwater valve packaged for bulk orders?
It is packed 8 each per case, which is worth knowing if you are stocking a truck or buying for a multi-unit rough-in rather than a single repair. The valve is country of origin China.
