The Sioux Chief 87950 is a 5" ABS slotted plug with insert, designed for capping cleanout and drain openings in ABS drain-waste-vent (DWV) piping during rough-in plumbing installation. Molded from durable ABS thermoplastic, this plug is manufactured in the United States and built to hold up to the demands of professional rough-in work behind the wall or under the floor. The slotted head and insert configuration give installers a straightforward way to seat and back out the plug during rough-in, inspection, and service calls, without requiring specialty tooling beyond a standard screwdriver or plug wrench.

Sioux Chief 87950 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use an ABS cleanout plug like the Sioux Chief 87950 in a PVC drain line?
The 87950 is molded from ABS, which is the material for ABS DWV piping systems. Solvent cement for ABS and PVC is not interchangeable, so if your drain line and cleanout body are PVC, order a PVC plug in the same 5 inch trade size instead. Match the plug material to the pipe material you are threading or cementing into.
2) What tool do I need to back a slotted cleanout plug out on a service call?
A standard screwdriver or a plug-removal wrench is all the 87950 needs. The head is slotted, so it seats and backs out without specialty tooling, which is why it is a practical choice for openings you expect to open again at inspection or for rodding a line.
3) What does "with insert" mean on the Sioux Chief 87950 plug?
The plug is built with a fitted insert as part of the plug body, which gives it a secure seat in the cleanout or drain opening. You do not order the insert separately, it comes as one assembly under model 87950.
4) Is the Sioux Chief 5 inch ABS cleanout plug made in the USA for buy-American specs?
Country of origin is the United States. For institutional and government procurement that carries a domestic-content line item, that is the documented origin on the 87950.
5) How many Sioux Chief 87950 plugs come in a carton for shop stock?
Standard packaging is 20 pieces per carton, which is why this one shows up on distributor and contractor stocking orders rather than as a one-off. If you are rough-in stocking a multi-family or commercial job with several 5 inch cleanouts, a carton covers a run of openings.
6) Where in a job does a 5 inch ABS slotted plug like the 87950 actually get used?
It caps cleanout and drain openings in ABS DWV piping during rough-in, behind the wall or under the floor, and stays in place through inspection and later service access. Typical uses are new construction rough-in, remodel drain line work, and plugging drain openings in both residential and commercial systems.
