1) Does the IDEAL 30-S2222N SLK disconnect kit come with fuses?
No fuses are included. The 30-S2222N is the non-fused version of the SLK breakaway kit, so you supply the 13/32 x 1-1/2 midget-style fuses separately if you want the holders fused. Order two if you are fusing both poles.
2) What wire size and conductor type will the IDEAL SLK breakaway disconnect accept?
It takes 2 through 14 AWG, and it is rated for both copper and aluminum conductors, so it works on aluminum feeders running out to a pole base without a separate dual-rated connector.
3) Can this SLK disconnect kit be used in a street light pole base that floods with water?
Yes. The SLK breakaway fuseholder is Listed to UL 486D, which is the standard for submersible wire connectors, so it is built for the wet or submerged pole base and handhole conditions you get in roadway and parking lot lighting.
4) Is the 30-S2222N a crimp or a set screw termination?
The 30-S2222N is the crimp version, so you will need the matching crimp tool and die on site. IDEAL builds the SLK line in both crimp and set screw terminations, so if the crew is not carrying a crimper, specify the set screw variant instead.
5) What are the amp and voltage ratings on the IDEAL 30-S2222N disconnect?
Rated 30A at 600V, with a 105 degree C conductor temperature rating. That 600V rating covers the usual 120V, 240V, 277V and 480V roadway and area lighting circuits.
6) What does breakaway mean on a pole light disconnect, and why does it matter?
Breakaway means the fuseholder body separates under load if the pole is struck, which opens the circuit at the base instead of tearing live conductors. That is why it is specified for roadway, street, parking lot and area lighting where poles get hit by vehicles. It also doubles as the service disconnect for anyone working on the luminaire.
7) How many fuseholders are in the 2-pole SLK kit?
Two. The 2-pole kit gives you a holder for each of the two circuit conductors, which is what you need on a 240V or 480V ungrounded two-wire lighting circuit. For a straight 120V line-and-neutral pole you only fuse the hot, so a single-pole kit covers it.
8) Can an inspector or maintenance tech find this disconnect easily inside a dark handhole?
The SLK housings are bright orange specifically for visibility, which helps when you are reaching blind into a pole base or handhole to find the disconnect.
