Spears 801-005 Schedule 80 PVC Socket Tee, 1/2 in.

The Spears 801-005 is a Schedule 80 PVC Tee designed for durable, high-pressure plumbing installations. Built with socket (SOC) end connections, this 1/2 in. fitting allows for reliable solvent-welded joints when routing PVC pipe through a 90-degree branch connection. Manufactured from rigid PVC material, it is well suited for demanding plumbing and fluid-handling systems that require a heavier-wall, higher-pressure-rated fitting than standard Schedule 40 components. As part of Spears' PVC & CPVC Fittings product line, the 801-005 Tee delivers dependable performance for residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing applications.

Key Features

  • Size: 1/2 in. socket connection engineered for a precise, leak-resistant fit with Schedule 80 PVC pipe.

  • Socket (SOC) End Connections: Solvent-weld socket ends on all three openings create secure, leak-resistant joints for long-term reliability.
  • Three-Way Branch Design: Tee configuration provides a 90-degree branch connection for directing flow to a secondary line off the main run.
  • Durable PVC Construction: Manufactured from rigid PVC material for corrosion resistance and long-term chemical durability in fluid-handling systems.
  • Versatile Application: Suitable for residential plumbing, commercial installations, irrigation systems, and industrial fluid-handling applications requiring Schedule 80 performance.

Spears 801-005 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What sizes does the Spears 801 Schedule 80 PVC socket tee come in?
The Spears 801 socket tee is stocked in five trade sizes: 1/2 inch (801-005), 3/4 inch (801-007), 1-1/4 inch (801-012), 3 inch (801-030) and 6 inch (801-060). All three openings are the same size on each part, so these are straight tees, not reducing tees. If your branch needs to step down, that is a different Spears part number.
2) Are the ends on the Spears 801 tee socket or threaded?
All three openings are solvent-weld socket (SOC) ends. You cut the pipe square, prime and cement it in, and there is no thread sealant or tape involved. If your run has to be taken apart later, or you are landing on a threaded valve or pump port, you want a threaded Schedule 80 tee or a transition fitting instead of this one.
3) Will a Schedule 80 socket tee fit Schedule 40 PVC pipe?
Yes. Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC share the same outside diameters at a given trade size, so a 1/2 inch Schedule 80 socket takes 1/2 inch Schedule 40 pipe. The difference is wall thickness: Schedule 80 has the heavier wall and the higher pressure rating, and the fitting is the heavier-wall part in that joint. Keep in mind the system rating is set by the weakest component, so mixing Sch 40 pipe into a Sch 80 fitting does not give you a Sch 80 system.
4) Why choose Schedule 80 PVC over Schedule 40 for an industrial water line?
Schedule 80 carries a thicker wall at the same trade size, which means a higher pressure rating and more mechanical margin on lines that see pump surge, vibration, or exposed runs that can take a knock. Spears lists the 801 tee for industrial fluid handling and chemical processing piping as well as ordinary domestic and commercial plumbing. For low-pressure drainage or gravity irrigation, Schedule 40 is usually all the job calls for.
5) Do I need anything else to install a Spears 801 PVC socket tee?
The tee ships as the fitting only. You supply the PVC primer and the solvent cement rated for Schedule 80 PVC, plus an applicator sized to the socket. On the larger sizes, 3 inch and 6 inch, plan on a second set of hands and a heavy-bodied cement, because the socket depth and the working time make a large joint unforgiving if you dry-fit slowly.
6) Is the Spears 801 tee PVC or CPVC?
Rigid PVC. It sits in Spears' PVC and CPVC fittings line, but the 801 series is the PVC one. PVC is the wrong material for hot water service, so if your line runs hot you need the CPVC equivalent rather than this tee. For cold water, irrigation, and most chemical transfer, PVC is what is specified.
7) Where do I find laying lengths and socket depths for the Spears 801 Schedule 80 tee?
Spears publishes the dimensional data for the whole Schedule 80 fitting range, including the 801 tee, in its Schedule 80 dimensions sheet and its dimensions and weights document. Those are the sheets to pull when you are working out center-to-end lengths for a fabricated assembly or checking clearance in a tight chase before you cut pipe.
8) Can I use this tee for a 90 degree branch off a main run?
That is exactly what it does. The tee gives you a branch at 90 degrees to the main, with all three ports the same size and all three solvent welded. For a directional change in the main itself rather than a branch, you want a Schedule 80 elbow; for a branch that has to be removable, use a threaded tee or a union downstream of it.
