1) What's the difference between the Socket and FPT versions of the Spears Schedule 40 PVC cap?
Two different ways to terminate a line. The Socket cap (447 series) slips over the outside of the pipe end and is solvent welded, so it's permanent. The FPT cap has female pipe threads and screws onto a male threaded pipe end or a male adapter, so it can be removed later for line access. Socket sizes run 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/2", 2-1/2", 3", 4", 5", 8" and 10"; threaded FPT caps are 1-1/4" (448-012) and 2" (448-020).
2) Will a Spears Schedule 40 PVC cap fit Schedule 80 pipe?
Yes on size, because Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC share the same outside diameter at a given trade size, so a Schedule 40 socket cap will seat on Schedule 80 pipe.
