Minerallac 96070 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can Minerallac 96070 clear RTV silicone be used outdoors on electrical enclosures?
Yes. The Minerallac 96070 clear RTV silicone is built for outdoor electrical work, including enclosure weatherproofing and outdoor installation protection. It is weather resistant and shows minimal change in properties after sunlight, rain, snow and ozone exposure, and it is mildew resistant for damp locations.
2) What temperature range will this RTV silicone sealant hold up to?
The Minerallac clear RTV silicone holds from -80 to +450 degrees F, so it covers cold outdoor service and hot equipment such as HVAC components and industrial gasket replacement. That range is why it gets specified around temperature-critical parts rather than a general purpose caulk.
3) Is this a 100 percent silicone sealant or a blend?
It is 100 percent pure silicone, not a silicone blended caulk. That is what gives it the chemical stability and long term flexibility the spec claims, and it is the reason it keeps its physical properties after weathering extremes.
4) How long do I have to tool the bead after spraying?
Roughly 5 to 10 minutes of tooling time on the Minerallac clear RTV silicone. That is enough working window to position and smooth the bead before it skins, which matters when you are sealing a long enclosure seam in one pass.
5) Is this silicone sealant safe around food handling areas?
The Minerallac clear RTV silicone is P1 rated and NSF registered, which is why it turns up in commercial kitchen and food plant maintenance as well as general building work. Confirm the P1 category matches the exact area you are sealing.
6) Will this silicone show through on a finished surface?
The sealant cures clear, so it stays visually unobtrusive on glass, metal and painted surfaces where a white or gray caulk would stand out. Only the clear color is offered in the 96070.
7) Is this aerosol flammable, and where is it made?
The Minerallac clear RTV silicone aerosol has a flash point of 109 degrees, so treat it as flammable: no open flame or hot work nearby during application, and ventilate the space. It is made in the United States.
