Square D BJA36060 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Square D BJA breaker bolt into any panelboard, or does it need an I-Line panel?
The BJA PowerPacT B-Frame is built with an I-Line connection on the line side and lugs on the load side, so it plugs into a Square D I-Line panelboard interior. It is not a bolt-on or plug-on residential style breaker. If your panel is not I-Line, this is the wrong connection style for it.
2) What wire size and lug torque does the Square D BJA PowerPacT B breaker accept?
Load-side lugs take AWG 14 through 2/0 aluminum or copper. Torque is 3.6 to 4.4 N.m for AWG 14 through 10, and 5 to 6.2 N.m for AWG 8 through 2/0. Run your 125A conductors against that 2/0 ceiling before you order, since the lug range is the same across the whole 15A to 125A family.
3) Can I use the BJA breaker on a 347V system?
Yes. The BJA is rated 0Y/347VAC, with Ue of 690 V AC 50/60 Hz under UL 489 and Ui 800 V with Uimp 8 kV per IEC 60947-2. The 347V rating is what makes it usable on 347/600V wye distribution common in Canadian commercial lighting and feeder work.
4) Which amp rating of the Square D BJA should I order for a motor circuit?
Pick by motor full-load amps. The family runs 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110 and 125A, ordered as BJA36015 through BJA36125 (the last three digits are the rating). All are 3-pole thermal magnetic with the same I-Line line-side connection, so you can standardize the panel and vary only the trip point.
5) Is the Square D BJA a UL 489 branch circuit breaker or a UL 1077 supplementary protector?
It is a UL 489 listed device, which is what the NEC requires for branch circuit and feeder overcurrent protection. By contrast the ABB ST200M miniature breaker we stock is a UL1077 supplementary protector, which cannot be used as branch circuit protection. If the drawing calls for branch protection, the UL 489 device is the one that satisfies it.
6) What is the closest cross-brand equivalent to a Square D BJA PowerPacT B 3-pole molded case breaker?
The nearest match from another manufacturer is the ABB A2A150TT, an A2 Series 3-pole molded case circuit breaker. Both are 3-pole molded case devices for distribution panels, but the Square D BJA uses an I-Line connection on the line side, so it drops directly into an I-Line panelboard interior. The ABB A2 Series is not an I-Line device, so if the existing panel is I-Line, the BJA is the one that mounts without modifying the interior.
7) Can an Eaton BAB Quicklag breaker be used instead of a Square D BJA PowerPacT B?
They are different classes of device. The Eaton BAB-302 Quicklag is a three-pole industrial thermal-magnetic breaker rated 240V, and the BAB series mounts bolt-on. The Square D BJA is a 3-pole thermal magnetic PowerPacT B-Frame rated 0Y/347VAC with an I-Line line-side connection. For a 347V system or an I-Line panelboard, the BJA is the applicable part; the Quicklag suits 240V bolt-on panel applications.
8) My motor circuit needs more than 125A of protection. What larger-frame 3-pole breaker is available?
The Square D BJA PowerPacT B family covers Motor FLA ratings from 15A up to 125A. Above that, the Eaton Series C K-Frame mining circuit breaker is a 400A 3-pole device with an interchangeable rating plug. Note that it is a K-Frame unit rather than an I-Line device, so the panel interior and mounting method differ from the BJA.
9) Is the Square D BJA breaker acceptable for HVAC and refrigeration equipment circuits?
It is HACR rated, so it can serve heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment circuits where that marking is required by code. It is also UL 489 listed and certified to CSA C22.2 No 5, NMX J-266, NEMA AB1 and EN/IEC 60947-2.
10) Thermal magnetic or electronic trip unit for a B-Frame feeder breaker?
The BJA is thermal magnetic, meaning a fixed thermal element for overload and a magnetic element for short circuit. That suits straightforward feeder and motor branch protection where you do not need adjustable settings or coordination curves. If you need field-adjustable long-time or short-time settings for selective coordination, a thermal magnetic breaker will not give you that.
11) What interrupting capacity does the PowerPacT B BJA have?
Service breaking capacity (Ics) is 100 kA at 220 to 240 V AC and 25 kA at 500 to 525 V AC, 50/60 Hz, per IEC 60947-2. Check those figures against the available fault current at your panel location.
12) What is an alternative to the Square D BJA if my panel is not an I-Line panelboard?
The BJA only fits I-Line gear. For a bolt-on 3-pole thermal magnetic breaker in other panel types, the Eaton BAB Quicklag three-pole industrial breaker rated 240V is a bolt-on alternative, with the BAB1010 also a bolt-on Quicklag device. Those are 240V class though, so they are not a substitute where you need the BJA's 347V rating.
13) Is the Square D BJA a molded case breaker comparable to ABB's A2 or XT series?
All are 3-pole molded case class devices, and ZenSupply carries the ABB A2A150TT in the A2 Series plus XT4 and XT5 series 3-pole breaker kits. The difference that matters is mounting: the BJA uses Square D I-Line line-side connection for Square D panelboards, while the ABB units are their own frame and mounting systems. Do not treat them as drop-in swaps for one another in an existing interior.
14) I need a smaller breaker for a control circuit, not a panelboard feeder. What should I look at instead of the BJA?
For small control and supplementary protection the ABB ST200M Series miniature circuit breaker with a C-curve is the lighter-duty choice; it is listed to UL1077 as supplementary protection. The Square D BJA PowerPacT B is a UL 489 listed molded case breaker, which is what branch-circuit and feeder protection requires. Use the ST200M only where supplementary protection is acceptable.
15) Does a Bussmann CBC or CBF circuit breaker substitute for a Square D BJA?
No. The Bussmann CBC Series is a Type I automotive circuit breaker rated 14VDC, and the CBF Series is a Type II automotive breaker; both are low-voltage DC vehicle and equipment devices. The Square D BJA is a 3-pole AC molded case breaker rated 347V for commercial and industrial distribution. They serve entirely different circuits and are not interchangeable.
16) Is an ABB XT4 or XT5 breaker kit a drop-in for the Square D BJA PowerPacT B?
Not as a drop-in. The ABB MBB33 is an XT4 Series 3-pole molded case breaker kit and the MBM334 is an XT5 3-pole breaker kit; both are supplied as kits on the ABB XT platform. The Square D BJA is a PowerPacT B-Frame breaker with I-Line line-side connection and lugs on the load side, intended for Square D I-Line panelboard mounting. Matching pole count alone does not make the ABB kits mount in an I-Line interior.
17) For an HACR equipment circuit, is the Square D BJA or a Bussmann CBS breaker the right part?
The Square D BJA PowerPacT B is HACR rated and listed for heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration equipment circuits on 347V AC distribution. The Bussmann CBS Series is an automotive circuit breaker family, intended for vehicle and DC equipment circuits. For rooftop HVAC and refrigeration branch protection fed from an I-Line panelboard, the BJA is the applicable device.
18) How many operations is the PowerPacT B BJA good for in a switching duty application?
Mechanical durability is 20,000 cycles and electrical durability is 10,000 cycles at 440 V per IEC 947-1 Annex K. That covers normal protective duty and occasional isolation; the breaker is also suitable for isolation per IEC 60947-2. It is not intended as a daily load switch.
19) How much panel width does a 3-pole BJA take up in an I-Line interior?
The BJA occupies 9 of the 9 mm pitches used to space I-Line devices. Use that figure when you are laying out how many 3-pole B-Frame devices fit a given interior height.
20) Does the Square D BJA meet green procurement requirements for a LEED or sustainability spec?
The PowerPacT B BJA carries Green Premium status with halogen-free construction, mercury free, and RoHS compliant with exemptions. Packaging is made with recycled cardboard and without single use plastic. Its environmental disclosure reference is ENVPEP2311047_V2, and REACH status is listed as containing SVHC, which some institutional procurement teams screen for.
21) I need an undervoltage release for my breaker. Does the Square D BJA include one?
The BJA PowerPacT B is a thermal magnetic breaker that supports a range of accessories, auxiliaries, and lug connections ordered separately. If you are specifying an undervoltage trip on an Eaton frame instead, the Eaton 10250T-GR is an NZM Series molded case circuit breaker undervoltage release. That release is an Eaton NZM accessory and is not a BJA component.
