Square D HOM-EPD 2-Pole Class B GFCI Circuit Breaker, Plug-In

The Square D HOM-EPD Homeline 2-Pole Class B GFCI Miniature Circuit Breaker is engineered for fast, tool-minimal installation and reliable circuit protection in compatible Homeline load centers and CSEDs. This plug-in device delivers Class B ground fault protection at 30 mA, a 10 kA AIR short circuit rating, and a 120/240V AC rated operational voltage (Ue). This family is offered across Motor FLA ratings from 20A to 50A, so installers can match the breaker to the branch circuit load while retaining the same Class B GFCI protection, 10 kA AIR short circuit rating, and 120/240V AC operational voltage across every rating in the lineup. It is UL Listed and TAA compliant, making it well suited for professional electrical installations that require code-compliant ground fault protection.

Square D HOM240EPD – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Square D Homeline 2-pole GFCI breaker fit in any panel, or only Homeline load centers?
Homeline plug-in breakers go into Homeline load centers and CSEDs only. The HOM_EPD series is a plug-in design sized for that bus, so it is not a drop-in for QO, or for another manufacturer's panel. Check the label inside your panel door before ordering; if it says QO or a competitor's brand, this breaker is the wrong part.
2) How many panel spaces does a 2-pole Homeline GFCI breaker take up?
Two spaces. The 2-pole configuration lands on both bus legs for a 120/240V AC circuit, so you need two adjacent full-size openings in the Homeline panel. If your panel is full, that is two tandem-occupied slots you have to free up, since a GFCI breaker of this type cannot be run as a tandem.
3) Is the Homeline EPD breaker a people-protection GFCI or equipment protection?
Equipment protection. The EPD breakers trip at Class B, 30 mA, which guards equipment and wiring against ground fault current but is not the 5 mA Class A personnel protection the NEC calls for on kitchen, bath, garage and outdoor receptacle circuits. For those, you need a Class A GFCI device, not this one. Use the 30 mA EPD where the code or the equipment manufacturer calls for equipment ground fault protection, such as heat trace, pumps, or spa feeders where a Class A device would nuisance trip.
4) What size wire will the Homeline EPD breaker terminals take, and what torque should I use?
The screw clamp terminals accept one conductor from AWG 14 through AWG 8, aluminum or copper. Torque the lugs to 4.6 N.m. That range covers the 20A through 50A ratings in the family, so a 50A run using larger than #8 will not land in this breaker's lug.
5) Can an ABB ST200M miniature circuit breaker be used in place of a Square D Homeline 2-pole GFCI breaker?
No. The ABB ST200M is a miniature circuit breaker built to UL1077, which covers supplementary protectors rather than branch circuit breakers. The Square D Homeline 2-pole Class B GFCI breaker is a UL Listed plug-in breaker rated 120/240V AC that installs directly into Homeline load centers and CSEDs and adds Class B ground fault protection at 30 mA. The ST200M also carries no ground fault sensing, so it does not replace the GFCI function. For a Homeline panel, stay with the Homeline plug-in breaker.
6) Is 10kA interrupting rating enough for my service?
10 kA AIR is the standard interrupting rating on Homeline plug-in breakers and covers typical residential and light commercial services fed from a utility transformer at normal distances. If your available fault current calculation at the panel exceeds 10 kA, you need a higher AIR device or series-rated combination, and this breaker does not qualify on its own.
7) Can I use this Homeline GFCI breaker on an air conditioner or heat pump circuit?
Yes. The breaker is HACR rated, so it is acceptable for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration branch circuits where the equipment nameplate calls for a HACR type breaker. Match the amperage to the maximum overcurrent device size on the unit's nameplate, not the minimum circuit ampacity.
8) Does a 2-pole Homeline GFCI breaker need a neutral pigtail connection?
A GFCI breaker senses the imbalance between the circuit conductors, so the circuit neutral lands on the breaker and the breaker's own coiled white pigtail goes to the panel neutral bar. Do not land the load neutral on the neutral bar directly or the device will trip on closing. The circuit conductors land in the screw clamp terminals, torqued to 4.6 N.m.
9) Is this breaker TAA compliant for a government or institutional job?
Yes. The Homeline 2-pole EPD GFCI breaker is listed as TAA compliant and UL Listed, which is what most federal, healthcare and education procurement specs ask for on a breaker submittal. It is also halogen free and mercury free if your project carries material restrictions.
10) What is the difference between a plug-in Homeline miniature breaker and a molded case breaker like the ABB A2 Series?
Two different classes of device. The Homeline EPD is a miniature plug-in breaker, 1 or 2 poles, 120/240V AC, that snaps onto the bus of a residential style load center. A molded case breaker such as the ABB A2N Series 3-pole is a bolt-in or unit-mount device for distribution panelboards and switchboards, and typically runs three poles for a 3-phase feeder. If you are protecting a branch circuit in a Homeline panel, the plug-in is the right form factor; a 3-phase feeder or a main disconnect is molded case territory.
11) Can I substitute an ABB ST200M miniature breaker for a Homeline breaker in my panel?
No. The ABB ST200M is a UL1077 supplementary protector on a DIN rail form, used inside control panels and equipment enclosures, not a branch circuit breaker that plugs onto a Homeline load center bus. For a Homeline panel you need a Homeline plug-in breaker such as the HOM220EPD through HOM250EPD.
12) When would a molded case breaker like the ABB A2N be used instead of a Homeline plug-in breaker?
The ABB A2A150TT is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker from the A2 Series, a construction typically bolted or mounted into distribution equipment rather than plugged into a residential load center. The Square D Homeline Class B GFCI breaker is a 2-pole plug-in unit for Homeline load centers and CSEDs, occupying two panel spaces, with screw clamp terminals accepting AWG 14 to AWG 8 aluminium or copper conductors. Choose by the equipment you are feeding: 3-phase distribution gear calls for the 3-pole molded case device, a single-phase 120/240V branch circuit in a Homeline panel calls for the Homeline breaker.
13) Is the ABB E150 3-pole thermal magnetic breaker an alternative for a HACR circuit instead of the Homeline GFCI breaker?
They serve different systems. The ABB E150 Series is a 3-pole thermal magnetic circuit breaker, suited to three-phase equipment. The Square D Homeline 2-pole Class B GFCI breaker is HACR rated for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration circuits at 120/240V AC with a 10 kA AIR short circuit rating, and it adds Class B ground fault protection at 30 mA that the thermal magnetic device does not provide. Single-phase condensing units and heat pumps fed from a Homeline panel take the Homeline breaker, in 20A, 30A, 40A or 50A.
14) What is the difference between the ABB XT4 breaker kit and the Homeline 2-pole GFCI breaker?
The ABB MBB33 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker kit in the XT4 series, supplied as a kit for molded case equipment. The Square D Homeline Class B GFCI breaker is a single plug-in device that seats directly into a Homeline load center and requires two panel spaces, with no additional mounting kit involved. If you are ordering for a Homeline panel, the Homeline breaker is the complete item; the XT4 kit belongs to a different equipment platform.
