Square D QOB-GFI QO 2-Pole Bolt-On Circuit Breaker, Ground Fault Class A

The Square D QO 2-Pole Bolt-On Circuit Breaker (QOB-GFI) delivers thermal magnetic overcurrent protection for ac and dc systems, paired with integrated Class A ground fault sensing at a 6mA trip sensitivity for enhanced personnel safety. This QO Series breaker is available across a Motor FLA range of 15A, 20A, 30A, 40A, 50A, and 60A, so installers can select the amperage that matches the branch circuit while relying on the same 120/240 VAC voltage rating, 10kA interrupt rating, bolt-on mount, and pigtail lead connection across every option. An over-center, trip-free toggle mechanism provides quick-make, quick-break switching action for dependable operation. Designed for QO-compatible panelboards, this breaker is TAA compliant and built to Green Premium standards by Schneider Electric.

Square D QOB215GFI – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Square D QOB-GFI breaker fit a plug-on QO load center?
No. The QOB-GFI is a bolt-on breaker, so it mounts with screws to a QO-compatible bolt-on panelboard bus. Standard residential QO load centers take plug-on breakers and will not accept it. If your panel interior is drilled and tapped for bolt-on mounting, this is the right device; if the existing breakers snap on, you need the plug-on QO GFI version instead.
2) Is the QOB-GFI a people-protection GFCI or an equipment ground fault breaker?
It is personnel protection. The ground fault sensing is Class A at a 6mA trip level, which is the people-protection sensitivity, not the 30mA equipment-protection level. That makes it usable where the code calls for GFCI protection on a 2-pole branch circuit rather than ground fault equipment protection.
3) What wire size can I land on a QOB-GFI 2-pole ground fault breaker?
Lug range is AWG 14 through AWG 6 copper, or AWG 12 through AWG 4 aluminum. Tightening torque is 4.6 N.m for AWG 12 through AWG 4 and 5 N.m otherwise. That range covers the full 15A through 60A span, so a 60A circuit on 6 AWG copper or 4 AWG aluminum lands directly in the breaker.
4) Does the QOB-GFI need a neutral connection?
Yes. The breaker uses a pigtail lead that has to be terminated on the panel neutral bar for the ground fault sensing to work. Budget a free neutral landing position in the panelboard before you install it, and keep the circuit neutral on the breaker's own load neutral terminal rather than the bar.
5) Is 10kA interrupting enough for my panel, and can I use this at 240V only?
The QOB-GFI is rated 120/240 VAC with a 10kA short circuit interrupting capacity. It works on a 240V 2-pole circuit and on 120/240V circuits that need a neutral. If your available fault current at the panel exceeds 10kA, this breaker is not the right choice and you need a higher AIC device.
6) Is the Eaton BAB bolt-on breaker a drop-in substitute for a Square D QOB-GFI?
No. The Eaton BAB Series Quicklag breaker is also a bolt-on thermal-magnetic breaker, but it is an Eaton BAB-frame device built for Eaton panelboards, while the QOB-GFI is a QO Series bolt-on breaker for QO-compatible panelboards. The QOB-GFI also adds Class A ground fault sensing at a 6mA trip level with a pigtail lead connection, which the BAB bolt-on breaker description does not include. Use the QOB-GFI where a QO panel and ground fault protection are both required.
7) I need a three-pole 240V breaker instead of a two-pole - what should I look at?
The Square D QOB-GFI is a 2-pole breaker rated 120/240V. For a three-pole 240V application, the Eaton BAB Quicklag Three-Pole Industrial Thermal-Magnetic Circuit Breaker is a 240V three-pole device. Note that it is a thermal-magnetic breaker without the Class A 6mA ground fault sensing the QOB-GFI provides, so if your circuit requires personnel-level ground fault protection you will need to address that separately.
8) What amp ratings does the Square D QOB-GFI 2-pole come in?
Six ratings: 15A (QOB215GFI), 20A (QOB320GFI), 30A (QOB330GFI), 40A (QOB240GFI), 50A (QOB250GFI) and 60A (QOB260GFI). Voltage rating, 10kA interrupting capacity, bolt-on mounting and the 6mA Class A sensing are the same across all six, so the only decision is matching the branch circuit ampacity.
9) Will this breaker physically fit the gutter space in my panelboard?
The QOB-GFI measures 4.13 in high and 2.91 in deep. GFI breakers are deeper than a standard thermal-magnetic unit because of the sensing electronics and pigtail, so check cover clearance and wire-bending room in older or shallow panelboards before you commit.
10) Is the QOB-GFI approved for federal and institutional work?
It is UL Listed and CSA certified, and TAA compliant, which is what government, healthcare and education procurement typically require on domestic-preference contracts. Country of origin is Mexico, a TAA designated country.
11) Can I use an ABB ST200M miniature breaker in place of the QOB-GFI?
Not for the same duty. The ABB ST200M Series is a miniature circuit breaker with a C-curve listed to UL1077, which covers supplementary protection rather than branch circuit protection. The Square D QOB-GFI is a UL Listed QO bolt-on branch breaker rated 120/240V with a 10kA interrupt rating and Class A 6mA ground fault sensing. If you are protecting a branch circuit in a QO load center, the QOB-GFI is the correct class of device.
12) What is the difference between the QOB-GFI and a molded case breaker like the ABB A2A150TT?
The ABB A2A150TT is an A2 Series three-pole molded case circuit breaker, a larger frame device typically used in distribution and feeder positions. The Square D QOB-GFI is a 2-pole QO Series bolt-on branch breaker measuring 4.13 in high by 2.91 in deep, rated 120/240V with Class A ground fault sensing at 6mA. For a two-pole branch circuit in a QO panelboard, the QOB-GFI is the matched device; the molded case frame serves a different point in the system.
13) Can I use a QOB-GFI on a 2-pole motor or equipment circuit?
Yes. It is sized by Motor FLA from 15A to 60A and provides thermal magnetic overcurrent protection along with the ground fault sensing, so it suits motor and equipment branch circuits that require ground fault detection, plus load center and panelboard upgrades. Select the rating that matches the full load amps of the equipment.
14) Will a Bussmann CBC breaker work for a 120/240V panel circuit?
No. The Bussmann CBC Series is a Type I automotive circuit breaker rated 14VDC, intended for vehicle and low-voltage DC wiring. The Square D QOB-GFI is rated 120/240V for QO panelboard branch circuits with a bolt-on mount. The two are not interchangeable in any installation.
