Square D LADN20 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which LADN models can I order and how do I pick the contact configuration?
Four models are offered: LADN11, LADN20, LADN22 and LADN40. The contact configurations across them are 1 NO + 1 NC and 2 NO, so pick based on whether your control circuit needs a normally closed contact for interlocking or only normally open contacts for run signaling. All four use the same screw clamp terminals and the same clip-on top mounting.
2) Can I switch a 120V AC control circuit or a DC coil circuit through these contacts?
Yes on both. Rated operational current is 6 A at 120 V in AC-15 duty and 1.04 A at 690 V AC-15; on DC it is 0.55 A at 125 V DC-13 and 0.1 A at 600 V DC-13. Conventional thermal current is 10 A at 60 C in free air. Note the steep DC derating: a 125 V DC coil or solenoid draw above half an amp needs an interposing relay.
3) Is the Square D LADN contact block UL Listed for a control panel build?
It is UL Listed and CSA Certified, and complies with UL 60947-5-1, IEC 60947-5-1, CSA C22.2 No 60947-5-1 and EN 50012. It also carries CB Scheme, CCC, EAC and UKCA marks. Rated insulation voltage is 690 V AC per IEC 60947-5-1 and 600 V per UL and CSA, with IP20 protection per IEC 60529.
4) Is an ABB CR305X auxiliary contact a substitute for a Square D LADN contact block?
No. The ABB CR305X auxiliary contact is built for ABB CR305X series contactors and relays, while the Square D TeSys Deca LADN block clips on to TeSys D LC1D, TeSys F LC1F, and CAD control relays covering LC1D09 through LC1D150. They are both front-mounted auxiliary contact blocks, but the mounting interface is specific to each manufacturer's contactor body, so the CR305X block will not seat on a TeSys D contactor. Choose the LADN for TeSys D or F, and the CR305X block only when the contactor itself is an ABB CR305X.
5) What is the closest equivalent to a Square D LADN20 auxiliary contact block if the panel uses Eaton contactors instead of TeSys D?
The Square D TeSys Deca LADN20 adds 2 NO instantaneous contacts and clips onto TeSys D LC1D and TeSys F LC1F contactors and CAD control relays, so it only fits that family. For an Eaton-based panel, the Eaton auxiliary contact kit C320DPG20 is also a 2NO block rated 10A at 600V, which matches the LADN20's 2 NO configuration and the LADN family's 10A thermal current and 600V UL/CSA insulation rating. Eaton's C320KG-SD is a top-mount auxiliary contact for the Freedom NEMA line, the same top-mounted approach the LADN uses, if the contactors are Freedom NEMA devices rather than IEC.
6) I need an auxiliary contact for a manual motor protector, not a contactor. Will a Square D LADN work?
No. The Square D TeSys Deca LADN block is a top-mounted auxiliary contact for contactors and control relays, specifically TeSys D LC1D, TeSys F LC1F, and CAD/CR1F control relays. For a manual motor protector, the Eaton XTPAXSA auxiliary contact is made for XT manual motor protectors, and the ABB HK1-11 is a side-mount 1NO/1NC auxiliary contact for MS116 and MS132 manual motor starters. Match the block to the device family it mounts on.
7) Do I need a top-mount or a side-mount auxiliary contact?
The LADN is a front, top-mount block, so it takes up face depth on the contactor rather than width in the panel. If your contactors are tight side to side but shallow, that is the right choice. If face depth is the constraint and you are on a different platform, a side-mount style unit such as the ABB HK1-11 for MS116/132 starters mounts on the flank instead. Side-mount units are not interchangeable with the LADN, which is keyed to the TeSys D and F ranges.
8) Is there an equivalent 2 NO auxiliary contact kit if I am not on TeSys contactors?
For NEMA-style Eaton gear, the Eaton C320DPG20 is a 2 NO auxiliary contact kit rated 10 A at 600 V, and the Eaton C320KG-SD is a Freedom Series NEMA top-mount auxiliary contact. Neither mounts on a TeSys D or F contactor, and the LADN will not mount on Eaton gear. Match the block to the contactor family you already have in the panel.
9) Will this auxiliary block work on a disconnect switch or a manual motor protector?
No. The LADN is built for TeSys D and TeSys F contactors and CAD/CR1F control relays. For an auxiliary contact on an ABB OT/OS disconnect, the ABB OA1G10 1-NO switch is the correct type, and for a manual motor protector the Eaton XTPAXSA auxiliary contact is the matching accessory.
10) Can I use a Square D LADN auxiliary contact to get status feedback from a disconnect switch or a lighting contactor?
No. The Square D TeSys Deca LADN block is wired to signal the state of a TeSys D or TeSys F contactor or CAD control relay that it clips onto. For a rotary disconnect, the ABB OA1G10 is a 1-NO auxiliary contact switch intended for OT and OS disconnects. For a lighting contactor, the ABB CR460XB2 is a 2-pole auxiliary contact block for the 460 Line lighting contactor. Each of those mounts to its own device and is not interchangeable with the LADN.
11) What should I use instead of a Square D LADN if I need to add contacts to a NEMA machine tool relay?
The Square D TeSys Deca LADN block is an IEC-style clip-on auxiliary contact for TeSys D LC1D and TeSys F LC1F contactors and CAD control relays. For a NEMA machine tool relay, the Eaton ARA20 is a four-pole top deck adder with a 2NO contact configuration for the AR/ARD machine tool relay line, which gives the same 2 NO arrangement as the Square D LADN20 but on an AR/ARD relay body.
12) If I need one normally open and one normally closed contact rather than two NO, what are my options?
Within the Square D TeSys Deca LADN family, the LADN11 and LADN22 are supplied in a 1 NO plus 1 NC configuration, mounting the same clip-on way on TeSys D and TeSys F contactors with screw clamp terminals. If the device is an ABB MS116 or MS132 manual motor starter instead of a contactor, the ABB HK1-11 is a 1NO/1NC auxiliary contact that side-mounts on that starter.
13) Will the LADN block match the look of the TeSys contactors already in my panel?
It is dark grey, the standard TeSys Deca finish, so added blocks will not stand out against existing LC1D contactors on the same DIN rail. It is also toxic heavy metal free and mercury free, which matters for facilities with restricted-substance purchasing rules.
