1) Will the Stanley QED125 exit device work on a fire-rated opening?
No. The QED125 is a non fire-rated concealed vertical rod device, so it cannot go on a labeled fire door assembly. Other models in the QED100 Series are offered fire-rated, and that is what you need for a labeled opening. Part of the reason is the dogging: cylinder dogging holds the pushbar depressed and the latches retracted, which is never permitted on a fire door.
2) Do I have to order the QED125 handed, left or right?
No handing to specify. The device is non-handed, field reversible, and field sizeable, so one unit covers either swing and can be cut down for a non-standard door width in the field.
3) Which size do I order for a 7 foot door versus an 8 foot door?
Device length and door height are ordered separately. The pushbar comes 36 inch or 48 inch (pick by door width), and each length is offered for both 7 foot and 8 foot door heights, which sets the concealed rod length. All three finishes are available in both device lengths.
4) Does the QED125 come with lever trim or a cylinder?
Trim is not included. Compatible trims come from the QED100 Series and are ordered separately, so decide your outside function first, classroom/storeroom or office/privacy/apartment. The cylinder dogging also takes a conventional cylinder, which is a separate line item keyed to your system.
5) Should I use a concealed vertical rod device or a surface vertical rod device?
Choose CVR, like the QED125, when the door is a wide-stile door prepped for concealed rods and you want nothing visible on the face of the door. The rods run inside the door, giving a clean profile, but the door must be factory or shop prepped for them. Surface vertical rod is the retrofit-friendly choice: rods mount on the door face and no internal prep is needed. Both latch top and bottom, so either secures a pair of doors without a center mullion.
6) What does cylinder dogging actually do on a day to day basis?
With a key in the dogging cylinder you can hold the pushbar down so the latches stay retracted, leaving the door free to push and pull during business hours. Turn it back and the device latches normally for after-hours security. Because it is key operated rather than hex key operated, only staff with the key can dog the door, which is why facilities with public lobbies prefer it.
7) Is the QED125 heavy duty enough for a high traffic entrance in an apartment building or school?
Yes. It is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1, the heavy-duty exit device classification, and is a commercial-rated device intended for high-traffic openings. Grade 1 is the level institutional and multi-family specs normally call for on main egress doors.
8) What mounting hardware ships with the QED125, and will it thru-bolt?
