1) Can a 2 inch Steel City EMT compression connector be used outdoors or in a wet location?
Only the raintight version. The Steel City 2 inch insulated EMT compression connector comes two ways: a raintight compression connector (TC716A-RT) for damp and wet locations, and a standard compression connector (TC716US) for dry indoor runs. If the fitting is going on an exterior wall, a rooftop run, or anywhere water can reach it, order the raintight.
2) Does the 2 inch Steel City compression connector have an insulated throat?
Yes. It is an insulated compression connector, so the throat carries an insulating liner that protects conductor insulation as wire is pulled through. That matters at 2 inch trade size where you are typically pulling large, heavy conductors.
3) Is a compression connector better than a set screw connector for a 2 inch EMT run?
Compression grips the tubing with a gland nut and ferrule all the way around, which is why the raintight version can be used in wet locations. Set screw connectors are dry-location only and generally cheaper to install. If the run is exposed outdoors, in a damp basement, or subject to washdown, go compression raintight like the TC716A-RT. Dry indoor conduit racks can take either.
4) Is the finish on this connector suitable for corrosion resistance?
The body is steel with a zinc plated finish, which is the standard corrosion protection for steel EMT fittings in indoor and protected outdoor work. For continuously corrosive or submerged environments, zinc plated steel is not the right choice.
