Steel City 502 SS316 502 BEAM CLAMP TYPE 316 STAINLESS

It's solid Type 316 stainless steel, not a plated carbon steel clamp. Type 316 is the marine/chloride grade, which is why this version gets specified for coastal work, wash-down food processing areas, pool and water treatment buildings, and chemical plants where a plated or galvanized clamp would bleed rust within a season.

A beam clamp grabs the flange of a structural steel beam and gives you a threaded hanging point, so you can support conduit, rod-hung strut, cable tray or a light fixture off the building steel without drilling, welding or punching the structure. Go stainless where corrosion is the failure mode: exterior steel, coastal or de-icing salt exposure, wash-down areas, wastewater and chemical rooms. Order Steel City model 502 SS316. The SS316 suffix is what separates it from the standard-material 502 clamp, so leave it on the purchase order or you'll get shipped the wrong finish.

You can, but you shouldn't in the environment that made you buy stainless in the first place. Pairing Type 316 stainless with zinc-plated or galvanized rod puts the less noble coating at the joint, and in a wet or salt-laden spot the rod corrodes first and the assembly fails before the clamp does. If you're specifying the 502 SS316, carry stainless rod, nuts and strut through the whole support.
