1) Is the Steel City LT connector metal or plastic, and can I use it as an equipment grounding path?
It is a plastic (nonmetallic) body connector in grey. Because the fitting is plastic, it carries no ground continuity, so the circuit needs an equipment grounding conductor run inside the liquidtight conduit. If you need the fitting itself in the ground path, use a steel or die cast liquidtight connector instead.
2) Will a 1/2 inch Steel City LT connector fit 1/2 inch liquidtight flexible conduit?
Yes. The 1/2 inch size, MPN LT 501, is sized for 1/2 inch trade size liquidtight flexible conduit, and it lands in a standard 1/2 inch knockout. Trade sizing on liquidtight fittings follows the conduit, so match the fitting size to the conduit marking.
3) I have 3/8 inch liquidtight whips on HVAC units, is there a fitting in this line that small?
Yes, 3/8 inch is the smallest size, MPN LT 500. That is the size normally used for short liquidtight whips to rooftop condensers, disconnects and motor connections.
4) Can I use these grey plastic liquidtight connectors on an outdoor or wash down enclosure?
These are liquidtight straight connectors, so the sealing gland is meant to keep water out where flexible conduit enters an enclosure, which is the usual reason they go on rooftop units, pump skids and wash down areas. The nonmetallic body also avoids corrosion where a steel fitting would rust. For a watertight result the enclosure itself has to be rated for the location and the gland nut has to be drawn up on the conduit jacket.
5) Do I need to order sealing washers or locknuts separately with the Steel City LT connector?
Plan on the fitting supplying the gland and body for the conduit side. If the opening is on an outdoor or damp enclosure, a sealing washer or gasket on the outside of the wall is what makes the entry watertight, and that is a separate item to add to the order along with any locknut your enclosure wall requires.
