Steel City RC212HDG – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What finishes does the Steel City RC212 beam clamp come in?
Two versions of the RC212 beam clamp are sold: a standard finish clamp ordered as RC 2 1/2, and a hot-dip galvanized version ordered as RC212HDG. The HDG clamp is the one to specify for exterior runs, parking structures, wash-down areas, or anywhere the steel will see moisture; the standard finish is for dry interior work.
2) Which Steel City beam clamp part number should I put on an outdoor or galvanized-steel job?
Order RC212HDG. That is the hot-dip galvanized version of the RC212 beam clamp, and it is the one that matches galvanized strut, rod, and structural steel on exterior or damp locations. For indoor dry work the standard finish RC 2 1/2 is the equivalent clamp.
3) What is a beam clamp like the Steel City RC212 actually used for on an electrical job?
It attaches hanger rod or support hardware to a structural steel beam flange without drilling or welding, which is how conduit runs, cable tray, strut, and light fixtures get picked up off the building steel. The RC212 is an electrical mounting and support fitting, so it is specified on the same drawings as the rod, strut, and tray it carries.
