1) Which STI Stopper II covers does the STI-1283 backplate fit?
The STI-1283 backplate is made for the STI-1210C, STI-1210D, STI-1221C and STI-1221D. It mounts behind the unit and works with the "C" and "D" back boxes. If your Stopper II cover is a different model or uses a different back box, this backplate is not the right part.
2) Do I need a backplate when mounting a Stopper II on brick, block or textured siding?
That is exactly the case the STI-1283 is meant for. It is recommended on unstable or uneven surfaces, where the back box would otherwise sit on high spots and flex or rock. The plate spreads the mounting across a flat surface so the box seats properly.
3) Is the STI-1283 a cover or just the mounting plate?
It is the backplate only, not a complete Stopper II unit. You still need the cover and back box (STI-1210C, 1210D, 1221C or 1221D) for a working installation; the 1283 is the polycarbonate plate that goes between the back box and the wall.
4) Can the STI-1283 backplate be used outdoors?
Yes. The backplate is recommended for weather applications as well as uneven surfaces, and it is molded from polycarbonate, so exterior mounting of a compatible Stopper II back box is within its intended use.
5) I am standardizing pull station covers across a building. Can I order one backplate that works with every Stopper II back box?
No single backplate covers the whole line. The STI-1283 is specific to the "C" and "D" back boxes used on the STI-1210C, STI-1210D, STI-1221C and STI-1221D. Sort your openings by which back box is behind each cover, then order 1283 plates for the C and D units.
