    1) Will an STI polycarbonate enclosure protect a keypad mounted outside in freezing weather?
    The STI polycarbonate enclosures hold up from -40F to 250F (-40C to 121C), so an outdoor keypad or annunciator is within range in a hard winter. Outdoors the gasket is the wear item, and STI calls for replacing it every 5 years. The cover is high-impact polycarbonate with a gasket included in the box, and it is clear so the device stays visible and readable through it.
    2) What is the difference between the A, B, C, D, E and F back boxes on STI enclosures?
    Back box choice is really a mounting decision. A is an enclosed deep back box, for when the device needs depth behind it. B is an enclosed back box with a double-gang electrical box built in, which is what you want when the device wires to a standard double-gang rough-in. C, D and E are open back boxes, meant to mount over an existing device or opening rather than enclose it, and F is a standard enclosed back box. Both surface and flush mounting are covered across the range. If you are covering a keypad already in the wall, an open box is the one; if you are mounting a device new to a flat surface, go enclosed.
    3) Should I order the STI enclosure with a key lock or a thumb lock?
    Key lock or thumb lock is offered on every back box configuration in the STI polycarbonate enclosure line. Thumb lock is the choice where staff need to open the cover fast and without carrying a key, which is the usual pick over an AED. Key lock is the choice where the point is keeping the public out of a keypad or annunciator, so only maintenance or security staff can lift the cover.
    4) Is the STI enclosure approved to go over an industrial control panel?
    The STI polycarbonate enclosures use UL Recognized Components and carry a Type 3R rating for flat surface industrial control panels. The polycarbonate itself is rated 94V-2 for flammability. Note the Type 3R application is stated for flat surface panels, so that is the mounting condition it is qualified against.
    5) I need to run conduit to a surface-mounted STI enclosure. Which back box handles that?
    The open conduit back box is the surface mount version built for a conduit feed. STI also offers a 3/4 inch rigid conduit hub, KIT-H18021, for that connection. If instead the device is fed from a standard double-gang rough-in, the B back box with the double-gang electrical box is the one to order.
    6) Can I get an STI polycarbonate enclosure in white instead of clear?
    White is available on the A, E and F back box versions only. Everything else in the line is clear. Clear is the default because it lets the enclosed device stay visible for identification, which matters over an AED or a labeled annunciator; white is the option when you would rather the cover blend into a finished wall.
    7) Do I need to buy mounting hardware or a gasket separately for an STI enclosure?
    No. Mounting hardware and gaskets ship with the enclosure. The hinge is not a separate part either, it is molded into the polycarbonate cover, so there is no hinge kit to add. The one thing you will buy again is a replacement gasket at the 5 year mark on outdoor installs.
    8) Will an STI polycarbonate cover stop someone from smashing or tampering with an AED cabinet or keypad?
    That is what the cover is for. High-impact polycarbonate over the device takes the abuse from vandalism, accidental impact, dirt and severe environments instead of the device doing it.
