    1) Will an STI Select-Alert mini alarm work on a cabinet without wiring it into anything?
    Yes. The Select-Alert runs on a single 9V battery (not included), so it mounts on an emergency equipment cabinet, a door, or an exit with no wiring run at all. If you'd rather not manage batteries across a large building, the same unit accepts 12-24VDC external power. A low battery LED flashes every 30 seconds so a facility crew can spot a dying unit on a walk-through instead of finding out when it fails.
    2) Can I set the STI Select-Alert siren to shut off by itself but keep the strobe flashing?
    Yes, and that's one of the more useful things about it. Siren and strobe time independently, each set to 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, or continuous. A common setup for an emergency equipment cabinet is a 30 or 60 second siren so the space isn't left screaming, with the strobe on continuous so responding staff can still find which cabinet was opened.
    3) Can an STI Select-Alert signal a panel or a remote annunciator, or is it a local alarm only?
    It does both. On top of the local siren and strobe, the Select-Alert has a Form C dry contact output rated 30VAC/DC at 1A. That's a voltage-free changeover contact, so an integrator can tie it to an alarm panel zone, a building automation input, an access control system, or a remote annunciator and get notification at a desk instead of just noise at the door. 1A at 30V also means it can drive a small relay or local indicator directly.
    4) Can an STI Select-Alert mini alarm be mounted outdoors on an exterior exit door?
    No. The Select-Alert is an indoor device, so keep it on the interior face of an exterior exit door or inside the building entirely. The housing is polycarbonate, which takes impact and cleaning well in a corridor or back-of-house area, but it isn't specified for weather exposure. For an outdoor opening, mount the alarm inside and run the door contact out to it.
    5) Is 85 dB loud enough for a Select-Alert on a stockroom door, or should I run it at 100 dB?
    Volume is selectable at 85 or 100 dB on the unit. 85 dB is the setting for a occupied space where the alarm only has to carry across a room, an office suite, a retail floor, a nurses' station. Go to 100 dB where there's mechanical noise, distance, or you want the deterrent effect out in a corridor or dock area. Either setting drives the same 10 high-intensity LEDs, which is what does the work in a loud environment where nobody hears the siren anyway.
    6) What lens colors does the STI Select-Alert come in, and does the color matter?
    Five: amber, blue, green, red, and white. The lens is a color-coding decision, not a performance one, and it matters most when you're deploying a fleet across a building. Red for life-safety and emergency equipment cabinets, amber for general tamper and unauthorized-use points, blue or green to separate departments or floors so a responder can tell from down the corridor which class of opening tripped.
    7) Will an STI Select-Alert stop someone from removing it or pulling the battery?
    A built-in tamper switch covers the unit itself, so opening or defeating the housing sets it off rather than silencing it. That's the difference between this and a plain battery door chime: the Select-Alert is built around unauthorized use, theft, vandalism and unauthorized exit, so attacking the alarm is itself an alarm condition. Combine it with the Form C output to a panel and the tamper event reports off the device even if the local siren is muffled.
