Metallics PCS254 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size conduit does the Metallics PCS254 strap hold?
The PCS254 is a 1-1/4 inch conduit strap, sized for 1-1/4 inch PVC conduit. It is a one-size part, so for other trade sizes you need the matching strap in the PCS series rather than this one.
2) Does the PCS254 strap qualify for Buy American on a federal or institutional job?
Yes. The PCS254 is flagged both Buy American compliant and ARRA compliant, and country of origin is the United States. That covers the usual documentation ask on federally funded, municipal, and public school or healthcare work.
3) Is the PCS254 conduit strap metal or plastic, and will it hold up outdoors or in a damp room?
It's molded PVC, grey, not steel. PVC straps won't rust or corrode, which is why they get used on damp and corrosive runs where a galvanized strap would stain or fail. For an application that calls for a metallic strap on the drawing, you'd need a steel or malleable iron one instead.
4) How many Metallics PCS254 straps come in a bag, and can I buy just a few?
They ship as a bag of 50, and 50 each is the order minimum, so this is bought by the bag rather than by the piece. That quantity suits a full branch circuit or riser run rather than a one-off repair.
5) Can a PVC conduit strap like the PCS254 be used on plumbing pipe, not just electrical conduit?
Its listed field application covers both plumbing and electrical, so it's used to secure 1-1/4 inch pipe as well as 1-1/4 inch conduit. Match it to the actual outside diameter of what you're strapping, since a 1-1/4 inch strap is sized to 1-1/4 inch conduit OD.
6) Do Metallics PCS254 straps come with screws or anchors?
No fasteners are included. The strap is the PVC body only, so order the screws, masonry anchors, or toggles separately to suit whether you're mounting to wood studs, block, or drywall.
7) What does a bag of 50 PCS254 straps weigh for shipping or a stocking decision?
The packaged weight is 0.73 lbs, with pack dimensions of 10 x 8 x 4 inches. Light enough to keep several bags on the truck or on a van shelf without eating payload.
