Metallics 400RTS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size conduit does the Metallics 400RTS two hole strap fit?
The 400RTS is sized for 4 inch rigid conduit. It is a two hole rigid pipe strap, so it wraps the 4 inch rigid and fastens through a hole on each side of the run. For any other trade size you need the matching strap in the series, not this one.
2) Can I buy a single Metallics 400RTS strap or does it only come by the box?
It ships as a box of 25, and 25 count is the order minimum, so the smallest purchase is one full box rather than an individual strap. Other sizes and quantities can be requested.
3) Does the 400RTS conduit strap meet Buy American requirements for a federal or public project?
Yes. The 400RTS is flagged both ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant, with United States listed as the country of origin. That is the documentation a government, school district, or institutional procurement office normally asks for on domestic-content jobs.
4) Do I get screws or anchors with the Metallics 400RTS rigid conduit strap?
No fasteners come with it. The 400RTS is the strap only, with two mounting holes, so you supply the screws, anchors, or toggle hardware appropriate to the substrate you are fastening to, concrete, block, metal stud, or strut.
5) Should I use a two hole strap or a one hole strap for 4 inch rigid conduit?
On a 4 inch rigid run, a two hole strap like the 400RTS is the normal choice. Fastening on both sides of the conduit keeps the pipe from rolling or twisting under load, which matters more as trade size and weight go up. One hole straps are generally used on smaller trade sizes and lighter runs.
6) How much does a box of 25 Metallics 400RTS straps weigh?
A box of 25 comes in at 24.59 lbs, and the carton measures 9 by 9 by 6.13 inches. Useful if you are staging material by floor or figuring how many boxes a cart or hoist load will take.
7) Can the 400RTS be used to support 4 inch rigid conduit run overhead?
Yes, within reason. It is a steel two hole rigid pipe strap, so it can be fastened to overhead structure or to strut as well as to a wall. Spacing of supports on a rigid run is set by the electrical code for the trade size, so lay out the straps to that spacing rather than by eye.
