Metallics METMSC20 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What cable does the Metallics MSC20 fold over strap hold?
The MSC20 is a 1/4 inch fold over strap sized for 24/3 cable, which is the small low-voltage style run used for thermostat, doorbell, and signal wiring. For larger NM or MC runs you want a bigger strap size, not this one.
2) Do these straps meet Buy American and ARRA requirements for a public project?
The Metallics MSC20 fold over strap is flagged as both ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant, which is what a government, school, or federally funded job normally asks for on wiring accessories. Country of origin is listed as multiple.
3) Is the Metallics MSC20 strap steel or aluminum?
Aluminum. That keeps the MSC20 soft enough to fold over the cable by hand without crushing the insulation, and it avoids rust on damp interior work. If your spec calls for a steel strap, this is not the part.
4) How many MSC20 straps come in a jar and can I buy fewer?
The MSC20 ships in a jar of 100 straps, and 100 count is the order minimum, so a jar is the smallest quantity sold. Plan the buy by the jar when you estimate how many tie-downs a run needs.
5) What is a fold over strap and when do I use one instead of a one hole strap?
A fold over strap like the MSC20 wraps over the cable and fastens through a single nail or screw hole, so you set the cable and bend the tab over it in one motion. It is the fast choice for securing small cable runs along joists and studs. A rigid one hole or two hole strap is the better pick when you need a fixed, non-conforming clamp on conduit or armored cable.
