Sure-Loc CD100 15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Sure-Loc Cedar lever fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or do I need a 1-3/4 inch door?
Either one. The Cedar lever covers doors 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches (35-45mm) thick, so it handles both the standard 1-3/4 inch door and the thinner 1-3/8 inch interior doors common in older homes. It does not go beyond 1-3/4 inches, so a 2 inch door needs a different lock.
2) Do I have to know the backset before ordering a Sure-Loc Cedar lever?
No. The latch is adjustable between 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inches (60-70mm), which are the two backsets used on residential doors, so one part covers whichever bore your door was drilled for.
3) Which Sure-Loc Cedar function do I order for a bedroom, a closet, and a front door?
Cedar comes in five functions. Passage for closets and hallways (latches, no lock). Privacy for bedrooms and baths (push-button lock, no key). Entry for an exterior door with a keyed lever. Entry Deadbolt Combo when you want the keyed lever plus a matching deadbolt on the same door. Dummy is a pull only, with no latch, for a fixed or inactive leaf.
4) Can I key several Sure-Loc Cedar entry levers to the same key for a rental unit?
Yes. Cedar keyed product is keyed alike in sets of four, so four openings in a unit or building share one key without any extra keying work.
5) Will the Sure-Loc Cedar lever drop into the holes from my old knob set?
It fits standard residential door prep, so a door already bored for a tubular knob or lever takes it without new holes, provided the door is 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick and bored at a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset. The latch adjusts to either backset.
6) The Sure-Loc Cedar Lever is residential duty - what should I use on a commercial opening instead?
The Sure-Loc Cedar Lever is a residential tubular leverset, so for commercial traffic step to a graded cylindrical lock. The Falcon K101 is a Grade 1 passage cylindrical lock with non-handed levers, fire rated, with a 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch door thickness range. The Corbin Russwin CL3110 is a Grade 1 vandal resistant passage lever, fire rated, for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. For a mid-duty commercial passage, the Hager 2510 is Grade 2 and covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors.
7) What is the closest equivalent to a Sure-Loc Cedar entry lever from another brand?
For a keyed residential entry lever, the Callan Artino is a Grade 3 entrance leverset and the Cal-Royal AUS00 is a Grade 3 entrance/office lever with a solid brass forged body for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Cedar covers the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door range with an adjustable 2-3/8 inch to 2-3/4 inch backset. If you want a graded commercial entry, the Hager 2525 is a Grade 2 cylindrical entry lever for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors.
8) I need the entry and deadbolt together like the Cedar combo - what else is offered that way?
The Sure-Loc Cedar Lever is offered in an Entry Deadbolt Combo function. The Callan Bennett is a Grade 3 entrance leverset supplied with a deadbolt combo as well, which is the closest equivalent when you want the lever and deadbolt keyed as one package rather than buying the deadbolt separately.
9) The Sure-Loc Cedar has no classroom or storeroom function - what covers those openings?
The Cedar Lever is offered in dummy, passage, privacy, entry and entry deadbolt combo only. For keyed-function commercial openings, the Cal-Royal AG05 is a Grade 2 storeroom lever with a deadlocking latchbolt for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Cal-Royal AG03 is a classroom lever in the AG Series with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway and 2-3/4 inch backset, and the Dexter C1000 is available in classroom and classroom security at Grade 1.
10) What finishes does the Sure-Loc Cedar lever come in, and will they match my other Cedar hardware?
Five finishes: Vintage Bronze (11P), 15 Satin Nickel, Polished Chrome (26), Polished Brass (3) and Flat Black (FBL). Every function, including the deadbolt combo, is offered in all five, so a whole house can be run in one finish across Cedar trim.
11) What is a good alternative to the Sure-Loc Cedar lever if I want a decorative lever or an electronic keypad instead?
For a decorative residential look, Baldwin Estate 5103 is offered in passage, privacy and half dummy (left and right hand) versions, and Emtek Classic and Arts and Crafts leversets cover dummy pairs. If you want keyless entry rather than a keyed lever, the Emtek Classic Keypad Leverset or the Delaney LP250 electronic keypad leverlock replace the key. Cedar itself is mechanical, not electronic.
12) Does the Sure-Loc Cedar Entry Deadbolt Combo save me buying a separate deadbolt?
Yes. The Entry Deadbolt Combo function pairs the keyed Cedar lever with a deadbolt as one order, in any of the five finishes, and keyed alike sets of four apply, so the lever and bolt work off one key.
13) Is there a cheaper plain passage lever than the Sure-Loc Cedar for closets and hallways?
For non-keyed interior openings, the Kwikset 200BRNL RDT Breton is a Grade 3 passage leverset for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the same thickness range the Cedar passage covers. The Callan Asheville is a Grade 3 passage leverset in satin nickel, and the Bravura Atlanta and Orlando are Grade 2 passage leversets with round trim if you want a heavier interior set.
14) What is an alternative to the Sure-Loc Cedar privacy lever for bed and bath doors?
The Kwikset 300BRNL RDT Breton is a Grade 3 privacy leverset for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, matching the Cedar's door range. The Baldwin Estate 5103 privacy lever with 5048 rose is a solid brass option in the same function. For a commercial privacy set, the Hager 2540 is Grade 2 with the Withnell lever for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors.
15) The Cedar dummy lever is reversible - are other dummy levers handed?
The Sure-Loc Cedar Lever is reversible handing across its functions, including dummy. Some dummy levers are handed and must be ordered by hand: the Baldwin Estate 5103 half dummy comes as a left hand part and a separate right hand part. Emtek Arts and Crafts and Cortina dummies are sold as pairs, and the BEST 9K 1DT is a Grade 1 heavy duty single dummy trim if you need one leaf only on a commercial door.
16) Can I use a Codelocks tubular latchbolt or a keypad lever in place of the Sure-Loc Cedar?
They are not direct substitutes. The Sure-Loc Cedar Lever is a non-electronic mechanical leverset with a key cylinder on its entry functions. The Codelocks CL410 and CL415 tubular latchbolt is a latch component for the CL400 Series, not a complete lever lock. The Delaney LP250 is an electronic keypad leverlock at Grade 2 and the Lockey 1150 is a mechanical keypad lever set in passage function for 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch doors - both replace key-only access with code entry, which changes how the door is managed.
17) The Cedar lever is die-cast zinc - what are the solid brass alternatives?
The Sure-Loc Cedar Lever uses a solid die-cast lever with zinc as the product material. If you want forged or solid brass, the Cal-Royal AUS00 entrance/office lever has a solid brass forged body at Grade 3, the Baldwin Estate 5103 lever with 5048 rose is offered in passage, privacy and half dummy, and the Emtek Classic Brass Cortina lever is a brass dummy pair.
18) Is a knob lock like the Arrow MK02 an acceptable swap for the Sure-Loc Cedar lever?
Only if a knob suits the opening. The Sure-Loc Cedar is a lever handle set, which is what ADA-driven specs generally call for. The Arrow MK02-TA is a privacy cylindrical lock with a Tudor knob, non-keyed, fire rated, for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Arrow HK11-BB is a turn-pushbutton entrance lock with a ball knob for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The function and door prep line up, but the operating trim does not.
19) Is the Sure-Loc Cedar lever solid metal or plastic inside?
The lever is solid die-cast, and the lock is built in zinc. It also has a 45 degree lever turn radius, which is a short throw that suits users who cannot grip a knob.
