1) Will a Sylvania 20672 CFL fit a G24d-2 two-pin socket?
No. The Sylvania 20672 uses a 4-pin G24q-2 base, and a G24d two-pin socket won't accept it. Two-pin lamps have an integral starter and run on magnetic ballasts; the 4-pin G24q-2 version is built to run on an electronic ballast, which is also what makes the dimming possible.
