TAYMAC SE450S – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the TayMac SE450S extension adapter actually do on an existing outdoor box?
The SE450S bolts onto an existing 1-gang weatherproof box and adds 1.65 inches of depth plus four 1/2 inch threaded hubs. You use it when the box you already have is too shallow for the device and wiring, or when you need more conduit entries than the box provides. It is cast metal, gray, and UL Listed.
2) Will the SE450S fit a 2-gang weatherproof box?
No. The SE450S is a 1-gang adapter only, so it matches the mounting pattern and opening of a single-gang weatherproof box. For a two-gang opening you need a 2-gang extension adapter instead.
3) What size conduit do the SE450S hubs take?
All four outlets are 1/2 inch threaded, so they accept 1/2 inch trade size rigid or IMC conduit and 1/2 inch threaded fittings, including compression or set-screw EMT connectors with male 1/2 inch threads. Unused hubs need to be closed off with 1/2 inch plugs to keep the enclosure weatherproof.
4) Is the SE450S metal or plastic, and does it keep the system grounded?
Cast metal with metallic construction, finished in gray. Because the body is metal and the hubs are threaded, the adapter is part of the metallic raceway path rather than an insulating piece like a PVC or non-metallic extension. If you are running a non-metallic system, a metallic adapter is the wrong match.
5) Is the TayMac SE450S approved for outdoor use?
The SE450S is UL Listed and built as a weatherproof box extension in cast metal for outdoor and wet-location box configurations. Keeping it weatherproof in service depends on using threaded conduit or listed fittings in the hubs and plugging any opening you do not use.
6) Will the gray SE450S match the weatherproof covers already on my building?
The gray finish is the standard color used on most cast weatherproof boxes and covers, so it blends with existing outdoor and industrial electrical hardware on a building where the other devices are gray cast metal. It is only offered in gray.
