Thomas & Betts AA-1123 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What colors do the Thomas & Betts AA color-coded I.D. tapes come in?
Five colors: blue (AA-1123), purple (AA-1127), red (AA-1128), white (AA-1129) and yellow (AA-1130). That spread is enough to run a phase-marking or department color scheme across a facility and keep the same part family for all of it.
2) Is the tape sold by the roll or only by the case?
It is sold each, one roll per inner package, with 10 rolls to an outer carton. So you can buy a single color one roll at a time, or take a full 10-roll case of one color when you are standardizing a building.
3) Can I use color-coded I.D. tape instead of painting conduit and floor markings?
That is what it is meant to replace. The tape identifies equipment, traffic lanes and housekeeping areas without the prep, cure time and mess of paint, and it comes off when the layout changes. For a facilities or MRO crew marking a plant floor, it is a same-shift job rather than a shutdown.
4) Is color-coded I.D. tape the same thing as printed wire marker tape with numbers on it?
No. The AA tape is solid color only, no printed legends or numbers. You use color as the code, for example a color per phase, per circuit group or per department. If you need conductor numbers or legends on the wrap, you want a printed wire marker book or a labeling system instead.
5) Will 1 inch tape work for phase marking larger conductors?
One inch is the standard marking width for wrapping conductors and it is wide enough to be read at a distance on a panel or a conduit run. The AA tape is offered in 1 inch width, and blue, red, white and yellow cover the common phase and neutral color conventions used on 208Y/120 and 480Y/277 systems.
6) Is this Thomas & Betts tape RoHS compliant?
Yes, the AA color-coded I.D. tape is listed RoHS compliant, which is the box institutional and government procurement usually needs ticked on submittals.
