Thomas & Betts 10000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is this Thomas & Betts MI fitting rated for wet or outdoor locations?
No. It is a non-watertight fitting, so keep it to dry indoor locations. For a wet location, a damp exterior wall, or anywhere subject to washdown or standing moisture, you need a watertight or raintight connector instead.
2) What material is the Thomas & Betts MI connector body made of?
Malleable iron, finished silver. Malleable iron takes a wrench and mechanical abuse better than die-cast zinc, which is why it gets specified for industrial and MRO conduit runs where the fitting may be handled repeatedly.
3) Can I mix sizes of this MI fitting across one job and keep the same part family?
Yes. The 3/4, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 inch sizes are the same Thomas & Betts malleable iron non-watertight MI connector, so a facility standardizing on one fitting family can cover several conduit sizes without changing manufacturers or material.
