Thomas & Betts 8125 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is this setscrew connector for EMT or for rigid conduit?
Setscrew connectors like the T&B 8125 family are made for EMT (thinwall) conduit. The setscrew clamps the tube wall, so there is no threading involved. Rigid or IMC runs use threaded couplings and connectors instead.
2) Can I use a setscrew connector outdoors or in a wet location?
Setscrew EMT connectors are a dry-location, indoor fitting. Wet or damp locations call for a raintight compression (gland and nut) connector instead. If the box or run is exposed to weather, order compression fittings rather than these setscrew connectors.
3) Do I still need a plastic bushing with this connector when pulling THHN?
No. The connector is nylon insulated, meaning the throat already carries an insulating liner to protect conductor insulation during the pull. That is the purpose of the insulated throat, so a separate bushing is not added.
4) Are these steel or die-cast zinc EMT connectors?
Steel. The 8125 series setscrew connectors are steel bodied, which is what most commercial and institutional specs call for when die-cast fittings are excluded.
5) How do I match the right T&B part number to my EMT size for a materials list?
Match by trade size of the EMT, not by conductor count: 1/2 inch EMT takes the 8125, 3/4 inch takes the 8225, 1 inch takes the 8325, and 2 inch takes the 8625. Trade size is stamped on the conduit, so a mixed run is just a matter of counting terminations per size.
6) What do I need besides the connector to land EMT into a panel?
Each connector lands one conduit end into the enclosure and comes with the locknut arrangement typical of a setscrew connector plus its insulated throat. You will still need the corresponding knockout in the box matched to the trade size you order, and a coupling for each joint between lengths of EMT. The connector itself is the box termination only.
