Metallics TRS912SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size and pitch is the Metallics TRS912SS threaded rod?
The TRS912SS is a 1/2-13 threaded rod, meaning 1/2 inch diameter with 13 threads per inch, which is the standard UNC coarse pitch for 1/2 inch fasteners. It mates with any standard 1/2-13 hex nut, coupling nut, rod coupler, or 1/2 inch threaded hanger insert.
2) Is the Metallics TRS912SS threaded rod stainless steel, and is it suitable for wet or corrosive areas?
It's stainless steel rod, not plain or zinc plated, so it's the choice for pool rooms, kitchens, wash-down areas, coastal exteriors, water treatment, and food processing spaces where plated rod rusts out. Pair it with stainless nuts and washers; mixing plated hardware onto stainless rod reintroduces the corrosion point you were trying to avoid.
3) What nuts and washers do I need with the TRS912SS rod, and are they included?
The rod ships on its own, no nuts, washers, couplings, or anchors with it. Plan on 1/2-13 hex nuts and 1/2 inch flat washers at each connection, plus 1/2-13 coupling nuts if you are splicing lengths, and a 1/2 inch female anchor or beam clamp at the structure. Specify those in stainless to match the rod.
4) Can I use 1/2 inch stainless threaded rod to hang conduit, strut, and trapeze supports?
Yes, that's the usual job for 1/2-13 rod on electrical work: dropping strut channel for trapeze racks, hanging conduit clamps and cable tray hangers, and picking up equipment from concrete anchors or beam clamps. You thread it into a 1/2 inch female anchor, beam clamp, or insert, then lock it with a 1/2-13 nut and washer at the channel.
5) How many pieces come in an order of TRS912SS threaded rod?
One piece of 12 foot rod per unit, supplied as a bundle pack. If you are hanging a long conduit or pipe run, count your drops and order the piece quantity accordingly rather than expecting a multi-stick bundle.
6) What is the Metallics part number for 1/2-13 by 12 foot stainless threaded rod?
TRS912SS is the Metallics manufacturer part number for the 1/2-13 x 12 foot stainless rod, single piece. That's the number to quote for a distributor cross-reference or a resubmittal.
