1) Is the TRS6/3 threaded rod galvanized or plain steel, and can I use it outdoors?
It is zinc plated steel (St-zn). Zinc plating gives light corrosion resistance for dry interior work such as hanging conduit, strut, boxes and light fixtures. For wet, exterior or corrosive locations, specify hot dip galvanized or stainless rod instead.
2) Do I get one rod or a bundle when I order Metallics TRS6/3?
The TRS6/3 is sold as a single 3 foot piece, though it is handled as a bundle pack type, so rods may arrive banded together on multi-quantity orders. Order the quantity of pieces you need for the run.
3) What else do I need to order with 1/4-20 threaded rod to hang conduit or a fixture?
The rod ships on its own. Plan on 1/4-20 hex nuts and washers, a rod coupling if you are joining lengths, and an anchor or ceiling attachment rated for the load, such as a 1/4-20 drop in anchor, beam clamp or strut nut. All of those must be 1/4-20 to thread onto this rod.
4) Can I cut this 3 foot rod down for shorter hanger drops?
Yes. A 1/4-20 zinc plated steel rod cuts cleanly with a bandsaw, portaband or bolt cutter rated for rod, and you can chase the cut end with a 1/4-20 die so nuts start straight. Cutting a 3 foot stick into shorter drops is normal practice on conduit and fixture hanging.
