Topaz Lighting 261I Rigid/IMC Steel Compression Connector, Insulated Throat

Topaz Lighting's Rigid/IMC Steel Compression Connector with Insulated Throat securely bonds rigid or IMC conduit to electrical junction boxes and enclosures. Built from durable steel, this threadless, compression-type connector delivers a concrete-tight seal for superior defense against moisture, dust, and other damaging elements. Available in 1/2" and 3/4" trade sizes, it is UL Listed for commercial and industrial applications, and its protective insulated throat safeguards wire insulation from abrasion at the point of entry. The compression-type fitting requires no threading tools, simplifying installation while maintaining a reliable, code-compliant mechanical and electrical connection between conduit and enclosure.

Topaz Lighting 261I – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Topaz 261I compression connector work on rigid conduit, or is it only for IMC?
Both. The Topaz 261I is a Rigid/IMC steel connector, so it lands on either rigid metal conduit or intermediate metal conduit of the matching trade size. It's threadless, compression type, so you don't cut threads on the conduit end. Slide the raceway in, tighten the gland nut, and the fitting grips it mechanically. The 261I covers 1/2 inch; the 3/4 inch size is the 262I.
2) Can I pour concrete around a Topaz 261I steel compression connector?
Yes. The 261I is concrete-tight rated, which is what you need for a fitting that gets encased in a slab or masonry pour. The compression design seals the joint against wet concrete, moisture, and dust working into the raceway. Note that concrete-tight is not the same as raintight or wet-location listed, so specify by the rating on the drawing.
3) Which Topaz part number do I order for 1/2 inch versus 3/4 inch conduit?
Two part numbers cover the range: 261I for 1/2 inch trade size and 262I for 3/4 inch. Order by the trade size of the conduit, not the box knockout, and remember a 3/4 inch connector needs a 3/4 inch knockout in the enclosure. Both ship 100 to a pack.
4) What does the insulated throat on the Topaz 261I connector actually do for me?
It keeps conductors from chewing on a bare steel edge where they enter the box. The molded throat sits at the conduit entry and protects the wire insulation from abrasion during the pull and over the life of the run. On a pull with a lot of conductors, or where the run gets re-pulled later, that entry point is where jackets get damaged, and an insulated throat fitting means you don't have to add a separate bushing at the connector to cover it.
5) Do I need a threader or dies to install a Topaz 261I compression connector?
No threading tools needed. It's a threadless compression fitting, so a clean square cut on the conduit, ream the burr, insert, and tighten the compression nut with a wrench. That's the practical reason to choose compression over a threaded connector on a retrofit or a tight ceiling where you can't turn the conduit to thread it on.
6) Steel or die-cast for a rigid conduit connector in an industrial plant?
The 261I is steel, not zinc die-cast. On an industrial floor, in a mechanical room, or anywhere the raceway can take a hit from equipment or a lift, steel holds up to mechanical abuse better than a cast body that can crack. It's the reason this one gets specified for commercial and industrial work rather than light interior runs.
