TOTO THP4042 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the TOTO THP4042 gasket?
The THP4042 gasket measures 48 outside diameter, 33 inside diameter, and 3 thick, per TOTO's dimensions for the part. Measure the ring you are replacing across the outer edge and the bore to confirm you have the same size before ordering.
2) Is the TOTO THP4042 a valve cartridge or just a seal?
Despite being catalogued with a cartridge name, THP4042 is a gasket, a sealing ring, not a working mixing or stem cartridge. If your faucet is dripping because the control cartridge has failed, this ring on its own won't fix it.
3) What is TOTO part THP4042?
THP4042 is a TOTO gasket, a replacement sealing ring for TOTO plumbing fittings. It is sold as a single part under the TOTO part number THP4042.
4) Can I use a generic O-ring instead of the TOTO THP4042?
Only if the substitute matches 48 OD, 33 ID and 3 thick. A generic ring off by even a millimeter on the bore or thickness will either extrude or leak under line pressure. For a facility standardizing on TOTO fixtures, ordering the THP4042 by part number is the way to keep the repair consistent across openings.
5) Do I need anything else to install the TOTO THP4042 gasket?
The THP4042 ships as the gasket only. No cartridge, nut, escutcheon, or tools come with it, so if the surrounding parts are worn you should order those separately. Shut the supply off and relieve line pressure before pulling the fitting apart.
