TOTO THP5189#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO THP5189 part, and is it the trim plate or the valve?
THP5189 is a square escutcheon, the decorative trim plate that covers the wall opening behind a bath or shower fitting. It is a cosmetic and sealing cover only, not a valve, cartridge, or working mixer, so ordering it does not get you the operating guts of the fitting.
2) I need a replacement trim plate for a TOTO shower valve. Is the square escutcheon the right shape for mine?
THP5189 is square, so it suits TOTO trim families drawn with square plates and will look wrong against a round or rectangular trim. Pull the existing plate off and match the shape first, then confirm the part number stamped on your trim kit paperwork. A square plate will not cover the footprint a larger round plate was hiding if the wall tile was cut to that outline.
3) What finish is TOTO THP5189#CP, and what does the #CP suffix mean?
The #CP on the end of a TOTO part number is the polished chrome finish code, so THP5189#CP is the square escutcheon in polished chrome. That is the only finish offered on this escutcheon, so if the rest of your shower trim is brushed nickel or matte black you will need the matching finish code for that line instead.
4) Do I have to order anything else with the TOTO THP5189#CP escutcheon to finish the job?
The escutcheon is the plate itself. Plan on your own sealant at the wall and, if the old plate was glued or caulked in, a bit of cleanup before the new one seats flat. Any handle, cartridge, sleeve, or valve body is a separate TOTO part and is not covered by THP5189#CP.
5) Can I use a TOTO square escutcheon on another brand's shower valve?
Treat it as TOTO-only. TOTO publishes THP-series escutcheons as service parts for their own bath and shower fittings, and the plate has to match that fitting's hub diameter and mounting method to sit tight. For a Delta, Moen, or Kohler valve, order that manufacturer's escutcheon for the specific trim series.
