1) Is TOTO THP5454#PN the hot side handle only, or does it include the cold handle too?
THP5454#PN is the hot handle by itself. TOTO sells hot and cold handles as separate part numbers, so if you are rebuilding both sides of a two handle faucet or shower trim you need to order the matching cold handle as a second part. Ordering one of these gets you one handle.
2) What does the #PN suffix on TOTO THP5454 mean for matching my existing trim?
On TOTO part numbers the suffix after the hash is the finish code, and PN is TOTO's polished nickel. So THP5454#PN will match polished nickel trim. If the rest of your valve trim is chrome, brushed nickel or polished brass, this handle will not match it and you want the same THP5454 base number in that finish code instead.
3) My maintenance tech says the hot handle is stripped at the stem. Is a replacement handle all I need?
Often yes. THP5454#PN is a replacement hot handle, and if the broach inside the handle is what wore out, swapping the handle alone restores operation. If the stem or cartridge splines are also chewed up, a new handle will strip again, so inspect the stem first and replace the cartridge as well if its splines are rounded. For a property with several of the same faucets, keeping one hot and one cold handle on the shelf covers the common failure.
