TOTO THP4989#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is TOTO THP4989#CP, a trim piece or the working diverter?
THP4989#CP is a TOTO diverter handle assembly, pressure type, supplied with the knob. It is the handle side of the valve, the part you grip and turn to send water between tub spout and shower head, not the rough-in valve body itself. If the valve in the wall is sound and only the handle or knob is broken, stripped, or discolored, this is the piece to order.
2) How do I make sure a TOTO diverter handle matches the valve already in my wall?
Match it by TOTO part number, not by looks. TOTO trim handles are tied to specific valve series, and THP4989#CP is the pressure type diverter handle assembly, so it belongs on a pressure type TOTO diverter, not a volume control or thermostatic stem. For a property manager standardizing several bathrooms, pull the number off the existing trim or the original valve paperwork and confirm it calls for THP4989 before ordering in quantity.
3) What finish does the TOTO THP4989 diverter knob come in?
One finish only, polished chrome, which is what the #CP suffix on TOTO trim part numbers denotes. Order THP4989#CP and you get the chrome version; there is no brushed nickel or matte black variant under this number.
4) Is TOTO THP4989#CP sold as a complete handle with the knob, or do I need the knob separately?
The knob is included. THP4989#CP is catalogued as the diverter with knob, so it ships as an assembly rather than as a bare stem adapter. No separate knob purchase is needed to finish the repair, though any escutcheon or trim plate on the wall is a different part.
