TOTO THP4966#BN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is TOTO THP4966#BN - is it the handle or just the trim plate?
THP4966#BN is the escutcheon (the marked trim plate behind the handle) supplied with its gasket for a TOTO thermostatic valve trim. The part ships as the escutcheon plus gasket assembly, so it is the sealing plate against the wall and not the thermostatic cartridge or valve body itself.
2) I am replacing a leaking shower trim plate - will this TOTO part fix a drip behind the wall?
No. The THP4966#BN escutcheon and gasket seal the trim plate to the wall surface and cover the valve opening; it does not stop water leaking from the thermostatic cartridge or the valve body. If water is coming from behind the plate rather than weeping around its edge, the cartridge or valve is the part to replace. Use this one when the plate is damaged, mismatched in finish, or the wall gasket has failed.
3) Does the TOTO THP4966 escutcheon come with the gasket, or do I order that separately?
The gasket comes with it. The part is catalogued as a gasket-type replacement and the description specifies the escutcheon is supplied marked and with gasket, so you get both pieces in one order for resealing the trim to the finished wall.
4) What does the #BN suffix mean on TOTO THP4966#BN?
On TOTO plumbing part numbers the suffix after the # is the finish code, and #BN is TOTO's brushed nickel. The only finish offered under THP4966 here is #BN, so if the other trim on the shower is polished chrome or another TOTO finish, the escutcheon will not match and you need the corresponding finish variant of the part.
