1000 Series Wide Stile Exit Devices and Trims are designed for new or retrofit installation into other manufacturers’ devices. The Push Bar assembly’s smooth and reduced projection minimizes catch hazard. The device function is field selectable by adaptation with the selected type of trim. A full complement of lever trim is available in various architectural finishes. 1000 Series are made to comply with the highest safety and security standards in the industry. 4) Will a rim exit device work on a pair of doors, or do I need vertical rods?

5) Can the ED1100 replace another manufacturer's exit device without redoing the door prep?
TownSteel builds the 1000 Series for new or retrofit installation into other manufacturers' devices, so it is intended to go back onto an existing wide stile prep. Confirm your existing device is a rim type and the stile is wide, since the ED1100 is a wide stile device.
6) Does the ED1100 meet ADA and Grade 1 requirements for a school or institutional opening?

10) Is an SDC pressure sense bar or switch bar a substitute for the TownSteel ED1100?
No. The ED1100 is a mechanical Grade 1 rim exit device with its own latch, UL 305 listed for panic hardware. The SDC PSB560 is a pressure sense bar and the SDC MSB550 is a mechanical switch bar that releases an electromagnetic lock - they signal a lock to release rather than latching the door themselves, and they fit narrow or wide stile.
