1) Can I put a TownSteel TS5000 exit device on a wood door?
No. The TS5000 is not rated for wood door mounting, and it is not fire rated either, so it should not go on a fire door assembly of any material. It is a commercial hollow metal and aluminum application. If the opening is wood, look at the Adams Rite 3700 Series or 8700 Series rim devices, both of which we list as wood door compatible, with the 3700 also carrying a fire rating.
2) What width opening does the 36 inch TS5000 exit device cover, and when do I need the 48 inch?
The 36 inch TS5000 device is sized for openings 30 to 36 inches wide. Anything wider than 36 inches, up to 48 inches, takes the 48 inch device instead. Order by the actual door leaf width, not the frame opening, and on a pair of doors each leaf gets its own device sized to that leaf.
3) Can a rim exit device be used on a pair of double doors?
A rim device latches into a strike on the frame or on a mullion, so on a pair of doors you need a removable mullion between the leaves for the latch to catch. The TS5000 is applied to single doors and to double doors with a mullion. If you cannot use a mullion because the opening has to stay clear for equipment, a rim device is the wrong choice and you want a vertical rod device instead, such as the Hager 4501 Series concealed vertical rod device for wide stile doors.
