Trimco TRI-625V.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the Trimco 625V, 625VE, 625CV and 625CVE?
Four builds off the same contemporary 625 knocker plate. The 625V is knocker plus door viewer. The 625VE adds engraving. The 625CV is knocker, viewer and a card holder for a name or unit card. The 625CVE is the full build: viewer, card holder and engraving. Multifamily and office corridors usually want the card holder so the tenant name can change without changing hardware; engraving is permanent, so use it for unit numbers that will not move.
2) How many characters can be engraved on a Trimco 625VE or 625CVE door knocker?
Four characters, and that is the whole field. It covers unit numbers like 1204 or 12B and short suite designations. Anything longer than four characters will not fit, so a floor plus a long suite ID has to go on the card holder instead, which is why the 625CVE carries both.
3) Is the Trimco 625 door knocker with viewer ADA compliant for a multifamily building?
Yes, the 625 is listed ADA compliant and is a commercial-duty product, not a residential-grade one. It also carries the ANSI/BHMA type designation L03161. For a property manager standardizing an apartment or assisted living corridor, that combination is what a spec writer asks for on the door schedule.
4) What is the difference between the Trimco 625 knocker and the Emtek 2620 door knocker?
The Trimco 625 is a contemporary knocker built around a door viewer, with models that add a card holder (625CV), engraving (625VE), or both (625CVE), and it is a commercial-rated piece with an ANSI/BHMA L03161 designation. The Emtek 2620 is a solid brass knocker in an urn style, a knocker only with no viewer, card holder, or engraving option. For a multifamily or office entry where the occupant needs to see out and the unit needs to be identified, the 625 combines those functions in one prep; where the requirement is a decorative knocker on a residential-style entry, the 2620 urn is the straight knocker.
5) Can an Emtek 2620 or 86060 knocker replace a Trimco 625V on an apartment door?
Not as a like-for-like swap. The Trimco 625V is a knocker with a door viewer, so the door already has a through-bore sized for the viewer optics and the model is ordered to a door thickness range. The Emtek 2620 urn knocker and the Emtek 86060 4 inch ring-pull knocker are knockers only, with no viewer, so replacing a 625V with either leaves the viewer bore open and the occupant without a peephole. If the goal is a different look on doors already prepped for the 625, stay within the 625 models and change the finish, which runs from 605 bright brass through 622 matte black and 626 satin chrome.
6) What finishes does the Trimco 625 door knocker come in, and will it match my existing lever finish?
Seven architectural finishes across every 625 model: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Those are BHMA finish codes, so if your levers and hinges are specified as 626 or 613, order the knocker in the same code and it lands in the same family. All seven are offered on the 625V, 625VE, 625CV and 625CVE alike, so adding a card holder or engraving does not narrow the finish choice.
7) Should I use a knocker with a built-in viewer or a separate door knocker and peephole?
A combined unit like the 625 puts the knocker and the viewer on one plate through one prep, which is why it shows up on apartment and hotel entries where every door gets the same treatment and installers want one hole pattern per opening. Separate pieces make sense when the viewer has to sit at a different height than the knocker for sightline reasons, or when you are keeping an existing viewer and only replacing decorative trim. If you want the knocker alone with no viewer at all, Trimco's 620 Series covers that; the 621 Series is the traditional styling if contemporary is wrong for the building.
8) Is there a UL rated Trimco 625 door knocker for a fire rated apartment entry door?
Trimco's 620 Series door knockers include UL certified options, which is what a fire rated corridor door needs since drilling a viewer through a rated leaf is only permitted with listed hardware. Specify the UL option when the door schedule shows a rating on that opening.
9) How does the Trimco 625 compare to an Emtek solid brass door knocker?
Different jobs. The Trimco 625 is a commercial contemporary knocker built around a door viewer, with card holder and engraving options and BHMA finish codes for matching a door schedule. The Emtek 2620 is a solid brass urn style knocker and the Emtek 86060 is a 4 inch sandcast bronze knocker with a ring pull, both decorative knockers without a viewer. If you are dressing a residential front door, the Emtek pieces are the styling play. If you need identification, sightline and a spec-grade finish across a corridor of doors, the 625 is the one.
10) Is there a heavier or more traditional-looking knocker than the Trimco 625 for an entry door?
The Emtek 86060 is a sandcast bronze knocker, 4 inches, with a ring pull, giving a heavier cast look than the contemporary styling of the Trimco 625. The 86060 is a knocker alone; the 625 family is built around a door viewer with optional card holder and engraving. Choose the 86060 when the entry calls for a cast bronze ring-pull appearance and no viewer is being cut into the door, and the 625 when the same hole has to serve as knocker and peephole.
11) For a facility standardizing unit entry hardware, which knocker carries a commercial designation?
The Trimco 625 carries an ANSI/BHMA L03161 designation and is designated for commercial use, and it is ADA compliant, which is what a specifier standardizing across assisted living, hospitality, healthcare, or multifamily corridors is usually asked to document. The Emtek 2620 solid brass urn knocker and the Emtek 86060 sandcast bronze knocker are catalogued by style and material rather than by that designation, so where a submittal has to name a BHMA number, the 625 is the one that answers it.
