Trimco TRI-APC22E-4.313 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door thickness can the Trimco APC22 pull be ordered for?
The APC22 is ordered by door thickness, and the choices run 1-3/8, 1-3/4, 2, 2-1/4, 2-1/2 and 3 inches. That covers a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door as well as thick custom slabs and closet or cabinet fronts at 1-3/8. Pick the thickness that matches the door you are mounting to, because the mounting hardware is sized to it.
2) What is the center-to-center dimension on the Trimco APC22 pull?
The APC22 is a 9 inch CTC rectangular pull. If you are replacing an existing pull and want to reuse the holes, the existing bore spacing needs to be 9 inches on center.
3) I need a heavy duty entrance door pull, not a flat rectangular one. What should I look at instead?
The APC22 is a slim 3/4 inch wide rectangular pull aimed at closet and cabinet doors, so for a main entrance take a round bar pull instead. The Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull with a 3/4 inch round bar and 1-1/2 inch clearance, the Ives 8103HD is the 1 inch round version with through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset pull listed as ADA compliant. The ABH AB7200 is another option, solid stainless at 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting.
4) I need an ADA compliant offset pull rather than the Trimco APC22 - what is the option?
The Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware, listed as ADA compliant in the EZ series. The Trimco APC22 is a straight rectangular pull in the APC20 Series, so where an offset grip profile is called for on the drawing, the 8145EZHD is the pull to order.
5) Will a Deltana OHP620 work in place of the Trimco APC22 on a 2 inch thick door?
No. The Deltana OHP620 off-set handle pull back-to-back set is rated for doors 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch thick. The Trimco APC22 rectangular pull is ordered for 1-3/8, 1-3/4, 2, 2-1/4, 2-1/2 and 3 inch doors, so on a 2 inch door the APC22 is the one that fits.
6) What is the difference between the APC21, APC22 and APC23 Trimco pulls?
Width is the only difference in the standard range. The APC20 Series comes in three standard "A" dimensions: the APC21 at 1/2 inch, the APC22 at 3/4 inch, and the APC23 at 1 inch. All three are the same rectangular profile, so choose on how much grip face you want and how the pull reads against the door. Custom widths are made as well.
7) E-Mount or G-Mount on the Trimco APC22, which one do I need?
The APC22 is ordered in one of two mounting styles, E-Mount or G-Mount. Which one you use depends on whether the fastener head can show on the opposite face of the door: the series is built for thru-bolted, concealed, or back-to-back pairs. If the pull is single sided on a closet or cabinet door with a finished back, you want the concealed approach; if there is a matching pull on the other side, order it back to back. Wood and machine screws are what the pull fastens with.
8) Can I get a Trimco APC22 pull on both sides of the same door?
Yes. The APC20 Series supports back-to-back mounting, so you can run a matching pull on each face of the door. Order it for the actual door thickness, since the through fasteners have to span the slab, and the range goes up to 3 inches. Engraving is also offered on back-to-back sets, not just single pulls.
9) What finishes does the Trimco APC22 rectangular pull come in?
Four finishes are stocked: Satin Aluminum (628), Dark Bronze anodized Aluminum (313), Black Anodized Aluminum (335), and Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver (712). The three anodized aluminum options are the ones to match if your other openings are already specified in 313, 335 or 628. Custom finishes are made to order.
10) What is a square-profile alternative to the Trimco APC22 pull for a thinner door?
The Sure-Loc Square Long Door Pull single-sided keeps a squared profile and is listed for 1/2 inch to 2-1/4 inch thick doors, so it reaches thinner stock than the APC22, which starts at 1-3/8 inches. For a back-to-back squared-off look, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch modern offset pair. The Deltana OHP620 back-to-back set is limited to 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inch doors, so it will not work on a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial slab.
11) Is there a simpler single-sided pull if I do not need the Trimco APC22 finish range?
The Sure-Loc Round Long Door Pull, Single-Sided offers concealed or thru-bolt mounting in a round profile, and the Sure-Loc Knurled Long Door Pull, Single-Sided gives a textured grip on one face only. The Trimco APC22 is a rectangular pull offered in Satin Aluminum (628), Dark Bronze anodized Aluminum (313), Black Anodized Aluminum (335) and Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver (712), which is the route when the finish has to coordinate with an architectural package.
12) Can I substitute a Cal-Royal PUL-175 for a Trimco APC22?
No, they do different jobs. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height, in stainless steel, used at a cylinder location on an exit device door. The Trimco APC22 is a rectangular architectural pull with a 3/4 inch width and 9 inch center to center grip, intended as a pull handle. They are not interchangeable.
13) If I need a stainless steel pull rather than the Trimco APC22, what should I look at?
The ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull handle, 7/8 inch diameter, with through-bolt mounting. The Trimco APC22 rectangular pull is manufactured from aluminum and offered in anodized aluminum finishes, so specify the AB7200 where solid stainless is required by the spec.
14) I need pulls on both faces of the door - Trimco APC22 or a double-sided peer?
Both routes exist. The Sure-Loc Knurled Long Door Pull, Double-Sided and the Deltana SSPORBB24 24 inch back-to-back round offset pulls both ship as two-face sets. The Trimco APC22 is also offered with back-to-back mounting and is ordered against the specific door thickness from 1-3/8 inch up to 3 inch, which matters when the through-bolts have to cross a thick door.
15) For a hospitality or multifamily standardization package, does the Trimco APC22 or an Ives C style pull fit better?
The Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid pull, 1 inch diameter, with heavy duty mounting, which suits high traffic entrance and corridor doors. The Trimco APC22 is a commercial rated rectangular pull in the APC20 Series that Trimco lists for commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, hospitality, multifamily and mixed-use, and retail, and it comes in a 712 Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver finish alongside the anodized aluminum options.
16) Is the Trimco APC22 pull suitable for a commercial building or is it residential hardware?
It is classed as commercial door hardware, and the APC20 Series is spec'd into commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, hospitality, multifamily and mixed-use, and retail. The look is modern and minimal, so it is commonly used on closet and cabinet doors rather than as a main entrance pull.
17) Can the Trimco APC22 be engraved or customized for wayfinding or unit numbers?
Engraving is an option on the APC20 Series, on single pulls and on back-to-back pulls. Leather wrapping is also offered. Both are specified when the order is placed, along with the finish and door thickness.
18) What are the ABH flat end pulls compared with the Trimco APC22?
The ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull handle with a 1.00 inch diameter for commercial doors, and the AB3310 is the offset flat end version with surface mounting. The ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull with custom length options. All three are round-section grips, while the Trimco APC22 is a rectangular section pull with a 3/4 inch A dimension and a 9 inch center to center, sold in E-Mount and G-Mount.
