Ty-Rap N4NY-005-0-M – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What cable diameters do the Ty-Rap N4NY nylon cable clamps cover?
The N4NY plain edge nylon clamps come in six closed diameters: 3.20mm (N4NY-002-0-M), 4.70mm (N4NY-003-0-M), 6.30mm (N4NY-004-0-M), 7.90mm (N4NY-005-0-M), 9.50mm (N4NY-006-0-M) and 12.70mm (N4NY-008-0-M). Pick the size that matches your cable or bundle OD so the cable seats without being over-compressed. Each clamp carries size markings in both inches and millimeters, so you can verify the size on the part itself after installation.
2) What size screw does the M4 mount nylon cable clamp take, and is hardware included?
The mounting hole is sized for M4 hardware, so you supply an M4 screw or bolt with whatever washer and anchor your substrate calls for. No fastener ships with the clamp. Mount it first with clearance for the cable run, then route the cable and torque the screw to the value your application specifies.
3) Will a nylon cable clamp damage the cable jacket like a metal clip can?
No. The inside edges are fully radiused, so there is no sharp bearing point against the jacket, and the plain edge design (no cushion insert) gives a smooth nylon contact surface. That is the reason to choose a plain edge nylon clamp over a bare metal clip for jacketed cable, THHN bundles, or control wiring in a cabinet.
4) Can these black nylon cable clamps be used outdoors or in a marine environment?
Yes. They are molded in black Polyamide 6.6, which the manufacturer calls out for UV resistance and chemical resistance in both indoor and outdoor use, including marine and outdoor cable protection. For fully exposed runs, pair them with corrosion-resistant M4 hardware, since the fastener is not supplied.
5) Should I use a nylon cable clamp or a cable tie with a mounting base?
A clamp like the N4NY is the better pick when you want a fixed, repeatable diameter and a reusable hold: the M4 screw mount carries the load, the radiused bore protects the jacket, and you can release the screw and re-dress the bundle without cutting anything. A tie-and-base is faster for one-off bundling of mixed diameters, but it shears the tie every time you rework the run. For panel and control cabinet wiring that gets serviced, the screw-mounted clamp is the usual choice.
6) How do I know which N4NY clamp size I pulled out of the bin on the job?
Each clamp is marked with its size in both inches and millimeters right on the part, so a tech can confirm the size without going back to the box. That matters when you are standardizing a panel build across several diameters from 3.20mm up to 12.70mm and have multiple sizes staged at once.
7) Are the Ty-Rap N4NY cable clamps made in the USA?
Country of origin on the N4NY nylon cable clamp is the United States. They carry the Ty-Rap brand label with Catamount as the sub-brand, which is the name you will often see printed on the packaging for this clamp line.
