Blackburn GUV15821 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Blackburn GUV15821 ground clamp UL listed for inspection?
It carries UL E3060 and CSA 12798, so it will pass an electrical inspection as a listed grounding connector on both sides of the border. That matters for institutional and MRO work where the AHJ wants a listed device on the electrode connection.
2) How big is the Blackburn GUV15821 U-bolt clamp?
The clamp measures 3-15/16 inches in depth/length. Use that to check clearance where the pipe or rod sits close to a wall, a strut channel, or the back of a panel, since the U-bolt legs and nuts need room to be drawn up.
3) What's the difference between a U-bolt ground clamp and a standard pipe ground clamp?
A U-bolt style like the GUV15821 wraps the pipe or rod with a U-bolt and clamps the conductor in a body drawn tight by two nuts, which gives it a wider grip range on round work than a one-piece strap clamp. A hinged or strap pipe clamp is quicker on a fixed water pipe size; the U-bolt design is what you reach for when you want mechanical hold on the conductor itself, here #4 through 2/0 copper.
4) Is the Blackburn GUV15821 insulated?
No, it's a bare metallic connector with no insulation. That's normal for a grounding clamp; the connection is meant to be metal-to-metal and bonded, not isolated.
5) Does the Blackburn GUV15821 come in a pack or as a single clamp?
It's sold each, one clamp per unit, under part number GUV15821. Order by the count of electrode connections you're making rather than by the box.
6) Where is the Blackburn GUV15821 made?
Country of origin is India. Worth noting if you're bidding public work with domestic-sourcing requirements on the material list.
