1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon C10-6FL fork terminal accept?
The C10-6FL is sized for 12 to 10 AWG conductors, and the stud size is a No. 6 screw. If you are terminating 16-14 AWG on the same panel you need a different barrel size, since crimping undersized wire into a 12-10 barrel will not hold.
2) Is the C10-6FL insulated, and does that matter for a crowded terminal block?
It is a non-insulated terminal, bare copper with no sleeve over the barrel. On tight terminal blocks or busbars where adjacent terminations are close, you either add heat shrink or choose an insulated fork terminal instead. The upside of the bare barrel is that you can see the crimp and the conductor position.
3) Can I use the Sta-Kon C10-6FL on a 480V motor control circuit?
Yes. The C10-6FL carries a 600 V rating, which covers 120, 240, and 480 V control and power terminations within its wire range of 12-10 AWG.
4) Will the C10-6FL fit under a No. 8 or No. 10 screw?
No. The fork opening is cut for a No. 6 stud. A No. 8 or No. 10 screw shank will not pass through it, and filing the slot wider destroys the locking tangs. Order the matching stud size for those screws.
5) What is a locking fork terminal and why use one instead of a plain spade?
A locking fork has turned-up tangs on the ends of the fork, so once the screw is tightened the tangs grip under the screw head and the terminal cannot slide out sideways from vibration or a slightly loose screw. A plain spade will walk out. On control panels and motor terminations where a ring terminal would mean pulling the screw all the way out, the locking fork gives you ring-terminal retention with slide-on installation.
6) Is this Sta-Kon terminal UL listed for inspected commercial work?
It is covered under UL file E9809. For a jurisdiction or facility spec that requires listed wire connectors on 600 V class circuits, that file reference is what an inspector or submittal reviewer is looking for.
7) Does the C10-6FL need a special crimp tool?
It is a crimp terminal, not a set screw lug, so it has to be compressed with a crimper matched to the 12-10 AWG barrel. Pliers or a general-purpose cutter crimp will not give a reliable termination on bare copper. Sta-Kon barrels are color/size coded by wire range, so set your tool to the 12-10 nest.
8) Can I use this on aluminum conductors?
No. The barrel is copper and the terminal is intended for copper conductors in the 12-10 AWG range. Aluminum requires a connector marked AL or AL9CU with the appropriate inhibitor compound.
9) Is this terminal made in the USA?
