Von Duprin 050734 US3 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Von Duprin 050734 lever actually replace on a 994/996 exit device?
It's the outside lever trim itself, not the whole trim assembly and not the exit device. The 050734 is the #03 style lever used on Von Duprin 994/996 RMV L and L-BE trim, so it's what you order when the lever is bent, sagging, worn loose, or you're changing finish and the rest of the trim is sound.
2) Can I just buy the lever, or do I have to replace the whole exit device trim?
Just the lever. The 050734 is sold as a replacement component for the 994/996 RMV L and L-BE trim, which is the point of it: the escutcheon, cylinder prep and mounting stay in the door and you swap the handle. If the escutcheon is cracked or the spindle is damaged, that's a trim assembly job, not a lever job.
3) I need the lever to match the other doors in the building. What finishes does the Von Duprin 050734 come in?
Ten finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, and 693 black painted. For a fleet of commercial openings, 626 and 630 are the two you'll most often find already installed. Order by the BHMA number, not the color name, since satin chrome and satin nickel read nearly identical on a photo and very differently on a door.
4) Is the 050734 lever handed? I have a left hand reverse bevel door.
Handing isn't called out as a separate part number, so one 050734 covers the opening. On Von Duprin lever trim the handing is set in the trim assembly and the lever mounts to suit, not by ordering a different lever. What you do need to confirm is the trim designation, 994/996 RMV L or L-BE, since that is what the lever is built for.
5) What is the difference between the L and L-BE trim the 050734 fits?
Both are lever trim for the 994/996 RMV family and the 050734 lever serves either. In Von Duprin nomenclature BE is the blank escutcheon version, meaning no cylinder in the trim, while the plain L trim takes a cylinder. That changes which escutcheon you order, not which lever, so the same #03 lever covers both.
6) Is the 050734 lever heavy enough for a school corridor or a hospital exit door?
Heavy duty is the rating carried, and it's a commercial part rather than a residential one. That's the class of trim you want on high traffic openings like schools, healthcare corridors, offices and multi tenant buildings where the lever gets hit thousands of times a month. Von Duprin 994/996 trim is exit device trim, so it's already living on a fire exit or egress opening.
7) Is the #03 lever a Von Duprin lever or a Schlage lever design?
The 050734 is a genuine Von Duprin part carrying Von Duprin's #03 lever style. Number style designations like 03 are how the lever profile is called out within the family, so a 994/996 RMV trim specified with an 03 lever takes this part. If your existing trim was specified with a different lever number, the profile will not match the rest of the openings.
