Von Duprin 50624 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Von Duprin exit devices does the 050624 extension rod kit fit?
The 050624 extension rod kit is a genuine Von Duprin replacement part built for the 33, 35, and 48 Series exit devices. It is the vertical rod extension used on those devices, so it belongs on a surface vertical rod application within that family. It is not a universal rod, and it is not intended for other Von Duprin series or for another brand's device.
2) My exit device won't latch at the top anymore. Is an extension rod kit what I need?
Only if the problem is the vertical rod itself, bent, broken, or out of adjustment, on a 33, 35, or 48 Series device. The 050624 restores the rod run so the device latches at the head again. If the fault is in the top latch mechanism rather than the rod, you need the latch component instead, not this rod.
3) I have a pair of doors with no vertical rods - what do I order instead of the 050624?
The Von Duprin 050624 only applies where vertical rod devices are already in use on 33/35/48 Series hardware. A double door pair running rim devices needs a mullion instead: the Falcon 4023 is a steel mullion for double door exit device applications, and the Falcon 525 aluminum mullion stabilizers address mullion movement in those openings. Those solve the pair-of-doors latching problem without any rod in the door.
4) Is there a vertical rod replacement for a Falcon concealed vertical rod exit device instead of the Von Duprin 050624?
No. The Von Duprin 050624 extension rod kit is built for Von Duprin 33/35/48 Series exit devices and should stay on that platform. For a Falcon concealed vertical rod opening, the Falcon 610061 is a 24 Series Monarch concealed vertical top rod made for F-25-C and F-25-CWDC exit devices. Rods are matched to the device chassis and latch geometry, so order by the device brand and series already on the door.
5) Is this rod kit suitable for a high traffic commercial entrance, or is it a light duty part?
It is a Grade 1 commercial part, which is the heaviest ANSI/BHMA duty classification for exit hardware, and it is specified for commercial use only. That makes it appropriate for schools, hospitals, offices, retail, warehouses, and government buildings where the device cycles constantly.
6) What are the alternatives if my exit device is not a Von Duprin 33, 35, or 48?
Match the part to the brand and series on your device. For Falcon 24 Series Monarch concealed vertical rod devices (F-25-C and F-25-CWDC), the Falcon 610061 concealed vertical top rod is the corresponding part. For a top latch failure rather than a rod, Accentra offers top latch replacement components for the 7110/7120 and the 7110F. None of those interchange with the Von Duprin 050624.
7) Can I use the Von Duprin 050624 rod kit on a fire-rated opening?
The Von Duprin 050624 extension rod kit is not fire rated. The Accentra 7110/7120 and 7110F exit device top latch replacement components are likewise not fire rated. On a labeled opening, specify the fire-rated device and component set called out by the door label rather than a non-rated replacement part.
8) My exit device latches at the top but not reliably - do I need the 050624 rod kit or a top latch?
Those are two different repairs. The Von Duprin 050624 is an extension rod kit that restores vertical rod travel on 33/35/48 Series devices. If the failure is in the latch itself rather than the rod, the part to replace is the top latch assembly - for Accentra devices, the 7110/7120 top latch replacement component covers those chassis, and there is a separate version for the 7110F. Diagnose whether the rod is out of adjustment or the latch bolt is worn before ordering.
9) What exit device parts look like alternatives to the 050624 but will not work in its place?
Several exit device service parts are not interchangeable with the Von Duprin 050624 extension rod kit. The Arrow 16RCR-27 is an SFIC rim housing in the 24/25 Series, a cylinder housing rather than a rod. The Falcon T Series 2-3/8 inch square corner deadlatch replacement part is a latch for T Series hardware. Neither addresses vertical rod length on a 33/35/48 Series device.
10) Is the Von Duprin 050624 a genuine factory part or an aftermarket copy?
It is an authentic Von Duprin component, catalogued as a replacement part for the 33/35/48 Series. For facilities standardizing on Von Duprin, that matters: an OEM rod keeps the device operating as originally tested and avoids mixing aftermarket geometry into the rod run.
11) How many rods come in the Von Duprin 050624 kit, and is it ordered as one item?
The 050624 is sold as a single kit under one model number, 050624, with no finish or length options to choose. You order the kit, then set the adjustable rod to your opening during installation.
