Von Duprin 967329 26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Von Duprin 968694 sex bolt head actually do on a 606/608 trim?
It is the head half of the through-bolt that clamps exit device trim to the door. The sex bolt passes through the door and the head threads onto it from the opposite side, holding the 606/608 trim tight to the face. When the head is stripped, rounded off, or missing, the trim goes loose on the door even though the device itself is fine. Replacing the head restores the clamp without touching the rest of the trim assembly.
2) My 606 trim is loose on the door but the exit device works fine. Do I need a whole new trim?
Usually not. Loose trim with a working device most often means the through-bolt hardware has failed, not the trim casting. Replacing the 968694 sex bolt head restores the clamping connection and the structural integrity of the trim assembly, which is far less work than pulling and re-prepping the door for new trim.
3) Is this a genuine Von Duprin part or an aftermarket copy?
OEM. The 968694 comes out of Von Duprin's own parts and accessories line, so it matches factory dimensions and threads into the existing 606/608 trim hardware without filing or drilling.
4) Is the 968694 rated for high-traffic commercial doors, or is it a light-duty fastener?
Heavy duty, and commercial rather than residential. That matters on a sex bolt head, because the trim fastener is what takes the abuse every time someone pulls on the outside trim. Schools, hospitals, and office entries chew through light fasteners; this one is specified for that traffic.
5) Should I buy sex bolt heads in multiples for a building full of 606/608 trim?
For a property manager standardizing a fleet of openings, yes, keep spares. Each trim uses more than one through-bolt, and the head is the piece that gets rounded off during service calls. Stocking both a satin chrome and a satin brass supply covers mixed finish packages across a building without a special order every time a door goes loose.
