1) What doors is the Von Duprin 99-F series designed for?
The 99-F series is designed for wide stile doors with 4-3/4" minimum stile width. Works on hollow metal, wood, and composite doors. Fire rated for up to 3-hour applications. Verify door weight capacity and stile dimensions before ordering.
2) How do I determine the correct handing for this exit device?
Handing is determined from the egress side (side you exit from). Right hand has hinges on right, left hand has hinges on left. The 99-F series requires specific hand designation when ordering. Check your opening carefully.
3) What finishes are available for the Von Duprin 99-F series?
Standard finishes include US3 (bright brass), US4 (satin brass), US10B (dark bronze), US26 (bright chrome), and US26D (satin chrome). Special finishes available on request. Finish affects lead time and pricing.
4) What fire rating does this device carry?
The 99-F series carries UL fire ratings up to 3 hours when properly installed on rated door assemblies. Must be installed according to manufacturer templates. Fire rating depends on complete door assembly, not just the exit device.
5) Does this exit device require electric power?
The standard 99-F series is mechanical and requires no power. Electric versions are available for access control integration. Mechanical operation ensures function during power outages, meeting egress requirements.
6) What building codes does this device meet?
Meets IBC, NFPA 101, and ADA requirements when properly installed. UL listed for fire applications. Always verify local code requirements and AHJ approval before installation. Some jurisdictions have specific requirements.
7) What accessories are available for the 99-F series?
Compatible accessories include cylinder dogging, keyed cylinders, pull handles, weather protection, and electric options. Trim must match exit device series. Check Von Duprin accessories for complete options.
8) How is the 99-F series installed on wide stile doors?
Requires manufacturer template for precise hole locations. Mount case to door face, install strike to frame. Proper alignment is critical for smooth operation. Use only specified fasteners. Professional installation recommended for fire rated applications.
9) What maintenance does this exit device need?
Regular cleaning and lubrication of moving parts. Check latch projection and strike alignment quarterly. Test operation monthly. Avoid petroleum-based lubricants. Replace worn components promptly to maintain fire rating and code compliance.
10) What are the key measurements for the 99-F series?
Case length is 48 inches for 4-foot device. Requires minimum 4-3/4" stile width. Standard backset options available. Verify door dimensions against manufacturer specifications. Template provides exact measurements for installation.
11) Can this device work in harsh weather conditions?
Standard units are for interior use. Weather-resistant options available for exterior applications. Cold weather can affect operation without proper lubrication. Consider weather seals and covers for exposed installations.
12) What similar Von Duprin models should I consider?
Compare with 98-F series for narrow stile applications or 9900 series for heavy-duty use. Consider 88 series for surface vertical rod installations. Browse complete exit device selection for alternatives.
